Feeling some hope! 35 hours into this hair removal

Are you using the purest aloe you can get?

I’m thinking that spot on your chin just needs extra time to heal. I would try a different aloe. Get the clear stuff and keep it refrigerated.

If the electrologist has the best magnification possible, she/he can see the tiniest hair peaking forth as long as you are positioned correctly and the light is moved as needed. Same for those very coarse clear hairs barely above the surface.

Nipple hair can be long or you can clip it prior to an appointment. Matters none. A first clearance can be obtain in one treatment most likely. Most women have 10-30 hairs per side. I have done a couple of women who had about 150 hairs per side, but we still got that first full clearance in about an hour. Blend is great for this area. MicroFlash or PicoFlash thermolysis will work well, too. For those electrologists that have a new thermolysis mode called ‘Synchro’ - all the better! We electrologists have so many tools in our bag! We are well armed to destroy those big, bad hairs.

Your post is hoepful and uplifting for many women that suffer with facial hair. Thanks for taking your time to share.

When Dee says, “Get the clear stuff” and “The purest Aloe you can get” she means the ingredient list should read “Ingredients: Aloe Vera (cold processed)” and nothing else. No alcohols, no colorings, no propylene glycol nor anything else that a 4th grader can’t pronounce.

there was some words, three that i could not pronounce and they had that alcohol sound in them!

Maybe Ill go to the health food store and drop some more money! I have a huge aloe plant, can i use it??? I always worry about putting it on anything because it could be infected with something!

=)

An aloe plant would be the purest. Wash a small section and snip it with a clean pair of scissors. It will be sticky!

The truth is the aloe plant you have would be the best thing to use. It would have ZERO processing and would be fresh from the plant to your skin. You can’t get any better than that.

You don’t have to worry about the plant, if it is growing well, it is not infected with anything. Just be careful to snip only a piece small enough for what you are using. No need to take more than you need, unless you plan on eating it as well.

Thank you LAGirl, dfahey and candela for responding to me. And another congrats to vibe1luv for going through this experience and getting good results…it sounds like you are very happy. I am defintely going to look into laser. I am also in the SF area candela…AURA seems like a reasonable place to you? Are there any others that you have checked out recently?

No other areas bother me as much as my bikini, expect maybe my upper leg and trail of hair on my lower stomach. More of a nuiscance to have to shave the upper leg twice a week but doesnt have the same reaction to shaving as my bikni line area has. I usually just bleach my stomach and tops of feet because they are not horrible. Would laser be the best bet for these areas too?

I will also look into the link that LAGirl posted on the laser FAQ’s.

Thanks again : )

Actually no, I haven’t really checked out places, but I remember seeing a newspaper coupon for Aura last fall advertising underarms for $100…I should have gone for it then! I saw good reviews of Aura on this site so I called them, but I haven’t worked much on laser research because I’m waiting for my financial situation to improve. I’d probably be happy to save time and just go to Aura because of their reviews here.

I sympathize about the bikini line. I hardly ever shave mine because I always get red bumps, but I don’t like the hairy look either so I’ll be glad to laser the area…I’m just kind of worried because some of my bikini area is light and then others are a lot darker so maybe I would need a combination of lasers.

I bet your feet don’t have coarse enough hair and probably your stomach doesn’t either. I am planning on doing electrolysis on those areas.

Tops of feet and abdominal area should be treated with electrolysis for best results. These hair structures are not usually the dense, dark, coarse type of haor you need for laser.

Dee

Laser is only for coarse, dense, coarse hair. It’s great for bikini. You’ll already be happy even after 3-4 treatments. I always had to wax that area before…I couldn’t shave due to the coarseness of the hair. I don’t even think about it now, after 6 laser treatments several years ago.

For stomach and toes, electrolysis is likely the way to go. Most girls’ abdomen hair is not coarse enough for laser, or only a small portion is coarse enough, which doesn’t make sense to treat with laser which covers large areas.

I got a full clearance today in an hour and a half, a week after another clearance. On my cheeks and jaw and neck.

So this means I havent really had a clearance?
Let me ask again, is a clearance when after a treatment you can see NO hairs??

I havent shaved except once between both clearances and the hair is so much less dense! =) YAYAYAY!!! I have some work to be done on my throat and have an appt for a half hour on wednesday. Not looking forward to it, so sensitive! I have had two clearances on my throat, so its only a few hairs at this point.

Whats the deal with sunblock? I am going to be camping all weekend and is it ok to use when im swimming?

=)

Exactly. If all of the hair in a given area is removed during a treatment, that is a clearance. For example, if you have a treatment on your chin, and all of the hair that was on your chin is gone at the end, you have had “clearance” on your chin. The first time an area is completely cleared it is a “first clearance”, which is very important and we often talk about here.

(There is hair under your skin you don’t see and won’t be treated since it isn’t visible and can’t be treated of course. If all of the visible hair in an area is removed, it is a clearance.)

In addition to what Vickie explained very well, I will add the adjective “noticeable” in front of the noun “hair”. There is a lot of hair on every woman’s face, but we are not interested in the fine, short, soft hairs when we remove hair. We only single out the bothersome hairs that others can see and the client can feel. So, you should expect to have the little blondies left untouched. I said the obvious, but some readers may believe that every hair should be treated when that is not the goal.

Dee

Yes I was not even referring to the blondies, even the course blondes dont bother me much until they are poking straight out and waving, those are typicaly why i shave between treatment. And the sporadic black hairs. So I have had my first clearance and now a few more. YAY

So what about sun block? I have some nutrogena for sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin on my face. Any ideas. I have been wearing abandana around my neck in the sun, almost bank robber style. Yes, PPL look at me, my friends and I crack jokes, but its all good. Im just thinking when i swim.

=)

You should be using sunblock. Just don’t apply it within 24 hours of treatment. Only apply on healed skin.

Healed skin? How can it be healed in twenty four hours??

It sometimes takes three or four days for my lil pin point clear scabs to come off.

I am very itchy today! I had to work in the heat, 111~~~ Dang Cali heat! I did not get any exposure but just the sweat is hard the day after electro.

I am pretty scabby this time, sometimes i feel the zap, mostly on my chin! The insertion is fine and the removal slides out, but the ZAP gets me, and then turn it down and i feel a tug, and the tug is not tolerable!

Whats the best advice for this. My electro adjusts accordingly, some areas i need less ZAP, thats what i call it, but maybe its some hairs, and oh i dont know.

Im always uncomfortable and a little bumpy and itchy for 24 hours at least! I go again tomorrow and then have a week off! YAY! These hairs growing in on my throat are so itchy! I just wanna scratch so bad! Calamine!?!?!

Some hairs need a bit more energy than others in the same area, or can use a second (or third) zap to successfully kill them and come out correctly. Are some of the follicles she is working on distorted (U, S or J shaped, as seen on a hair growth chart in her office)?

I am sure they are distorted. I look at that chart every time i go in! I however never tweezed or waxed, i only just shaved, so that saves the follicle some right?

But they are old! LOL! I have had this for like 15 years, and i get ingrowns so more then likely there are a few that go weirdly,is that a word.

Four hours until my throat treatment! Then its back to work afterwards, fortunately I am just in my office today! Do not have to see the public and its kind of like my second home so if co workers ask its whatever!

Drinking my water and feeling less itchy this morning. Havent looked in the mirror yet!

Wish me luck =)

I went in for treatment on my throat and lower neck today and collar bone! OUCH OUCH OUCH! It is so tender in that area?

Has anyone else found this to be true?

I am very tough and it just ruins me. How I could handle it on my lunch break for an hour then go back to work amazes me! Im finding a strength in me i did not know I had. I have never wanted to really quit this travel through electrolysis! (which BTW i can’t always spell right). But there are times I have to go that I just don’t want to! But it is so paying off!

I do not want anyone to suffer through the pain and embarassment I felt for fifteen yearsfrom being so hairy!! I thank my higher power daily that I found my electrolysist! Is that what she is called?? HAHA!

To all you hair removal people out there, thank you so much for leading me to this site and for reading my posts and nuddging me along with kind words and advice!

=)

You can use a numbing cream on the more sensitive areas. Or at least take a painkiller beforehand.

Skin is not healed within 24 hrs, but that’s when it’s most sensitive. So you definitely shouldn’t use anything harsh like acne washes or makeup during that period. You can start using makeup after 24-48 hours. Basically, don’t use it in the same way that you wouldn’t use it on any raw wounds. Scabs are already a sign of healing. It’s not raw and sensitive anymore when there are scabs. They dry up and fall off.

Not having waxed or tweezed is a good thing, you didn’t make what is naturally distorted worse. Those distorted follicles are hard, especially the U shaped one where the bulb/papilla extends away from the main hair shaft. Galvanic or blend is ideal for those distorted hairs. They might be able to be treated with flash thermolysis, but I found it is very difficult to unless they are in early anagen and are not as distorted as they will be as the hair enters further into anagen stage.
