facial seborrheic dermatitis and electrolysis

I was just wondering if anyone knew if these 2 are connected at all? I may have this issue, waiting to see the dermatologist, but I’m having really bad itchy flake skin all over my face. I know my electrologist uses neosporin (which I wipe off after treatment, I told her I don’t want to keep using it) on my face. This clears off the normal bacteria on your face and leaves the yeast…leaving the face open for this problem, the dermatitis, to occur.

Anyways, I now am at a dilemma. Is it safe to be using antifungal cream on my face and getting electrolysis treatments? I assume it’s not safe because the tiny wounds will be open for the cream to go by accident… ugh.

I have stopped going to treatments the last couple weeks when I noticed the skin started to look weird (last month) I thought it was dry skin at first… but nothing was helping it.

Anyone have this dermatitis under control (it goes away) and still get treatments? I’m worried that if I manage to get the dermatitis to go, that electrolysis will bring it back (I will be VERY ADAMANT about her not putting neosporin on my skin ever again). :frowning: I am a bride’s maid in a wedding that is coming up in the summer, not sure how long this problem will take to resolve but I also don’t want to postpone electrolysis treatments. ARGH!

Any help is appreciated.

I have eczema dermatitis and psoriasis and yes doing electrolysis will make your skin break out. Neosporin is never a bad thing to put on your face and I’m confused as to why you think it’s making the dermatitis flare up.

Remember, if you indeed do have dermatitis, you have a life long skin condition that never actually ‘goes away’.

Enough clients complained of flaky skin after using Neosporin that I suggested if one wants to use a similar topical, try Bacitracin. With Bacitracin, the flakiness was no longer an issue. I read that the Neomycin in the Neosporin might be what caused the reaction.

Because my skin also reacts badly to many products and even electrolysis treatments (I have psoriasis) I find that blend treatments (less heated-up tissue) works best for me.

If the electrolysis tech. does not have the tools to provide blend, find out is she has insulated needles.

If there is less overall traumatized tissue, then perhaps you might not feel the need to put anything on the skin however I do suggest an alcohol free witch hazel and aloe vera gel.

I dont use neosporin for this reason, but also because repeated use can make bacteria that is resistant to it.Tea tree oil or witch hazel works.

I figured I could bump this thread…

I never had this issue in all of my life but it showed up within the last couple of months. I have been doing everything to try to minimize symptoms but the itching, constant flaking, and oil is driving me nuts… I feel like ripping my face off every day now…

Does anyone know if this dermatitis will ever subside?

Do I have to stop electrolysis for months until I see some relief? I just want my skin back.

I can’t go a couple hours without my face itching like crazy and despite putting moisturizer on (tried many kinds, nothing works) the skin still sends out tons of oil… way too much. I never had this problem ever before.

Can someone please talk to me about this (client or electrologist) if they know any advice or tips? I’m really getting desperate for help because I’ve spent months trying to get help or ask people (including my own dermatologist and electrologist) if I should stop electrolysis or how I should be approaching healing this dermatitis problem? This itching is unbearable and it interferes with an 8 hour work day. What I need is to clean the oil off my face but I can’t wash my face more than 2x a day (read that it will make my skin even drier)… I’m just really at my wit’s end.

Thank you in advance… :frowning:

it’s probably not the electrolysis. It’s more than likely something you are putting on your skin that is complicating matters.
