Facial Laser Hair Reduction on Females

I came to a decision recently to begin a course of laser hair removal treatments on my chin area, and have gone as far as booking in an initial consultation for tomorrow. I wanted to skill myself up a little on what to expect (therefore I have been reading through this forum), and I have come across various posts that warn females to stay clear of laser hair reduction methods on the face.

Now I am left doubting my decision and worried that I am only going to make things worse for myself by potentially inducing further hair growth.

Here is some background information - I am 28 yrs old and have been plagued by hereditary facial hair growth on my chin since I was 16. The colour of the hairs range from red to dark brown, and I am guessing 40-50% of the hairs are dark enough to be effectively treated by laser. All the hairs are quite thick.

My plan was to complete a course of around 8 laser treatments initially spaced 8 weeks apart, then treat the remaining lighter hairs by electrolysis. My reason for choosing laser is because I thought the area would be too large for electrolysis as it just seems like an unrealistic task treating each hair individually.

Right now I’m not sure what to do. I will go to my appointment tomorrow and talk to the therapist. They have the GentleLASE machine and the plan is to perform a spot test. I will reassess after the consultation.

Any advice/thoughts on my situation would be much appreciated.

If you put your location in your profile, it would be easier to help you find the electrolysis provider you will end up using to either do this from start to finish, or clear up what the LASER doesn’t remove.

As for the question of electrolysis being overwhelmed by the amount of hair that you have, even without seeing you, I can say that after removing full male beards for years, whatever you have going on is not too much for electrolysis.

Please listen to me. Have your chin treated with electrolysis. You will need it anyway when you discover that you will not get hair -free with laser. Those chin hairs may be thick, but the color part is iffy. Laser won’t affect most of those hairs. Do you live in a locale that has several electrologists? If you do, get those consultations and compare. If you insist on trying laser, then be prepared to pay for electrolysis in the future as well, because I’m betting heavy that you will need it.

Thank you both for your responses. I now believe that I should change my decision and go straight to electrolysis. I live in Auckland, New Zealand and will start investigating a few clinics. I’m not sure if you can recommend a reputable clinic in Auckland, but if you can that would be great.

Thanks again,

This electrologist was recommended by a poster “alison” last year.
