Facial hair removal (18 year old w/ pics)

Just a reply so anyone reading your thread doesn’t actually listen to what you say and believes it. For one thing, you don’t get paid to do clinical trials. I know, because one of my good friends works at a plastic surgeon in Yorkville in Toronto and several of my friends have participated in them. What you get, is the trial for free, whether that’s 10 laser treatments, 10 botox injections, 10 laser lipo sessions etc. Then when the trials are done, you usually get several free sessions after that.

I don’t see what LAGirl being American has to do with anything, I’m Canadian and you sound like a complete idiot to me (just saying).

In terms of smaller spot size treating deeper, that’s not just from experience, that’s a fact how lasers work as they work in a cone. If they were the same no matter the size, then please explain why the joules are increased as the spot size decreases?

Finally, you’re using a laser that hardly anyone has used. Furthermore, you’ve had one session according to your log so you can’t say anything about having permanent successful results. For one thing, you’d have no results after 1 session. For another, just because the hair sheds doesn’t mean it’s gone forever it just means the hair was damaged a bit, but not necessarily forever. Lastly, the only way to judge if it’s been permanent is by stopping treatments for at minimum 6 months and if at that point no hair has grown back, then it’s a success. You’ve had ONE treatment 2 months ago, that means absolutely nothing. Whether your laser works or not, you wouldn’t be able to tell after just 1 treatment, even if every single hair fell out after 2 weeks, because when it grows back, it wouldn’t even look like a treatment was done. It takes at least 3 before you start to notice thinning on the face since there’s twice as much hair there as anywhere else.

If you choose to believe a doctor, by all means do, after all it does make sense. The thing with laser that you fail to realize is that laser is a BUSINESS, people buy one machine and then have to sell it to customers to make money. They’re not going to tell you “Oh you’d get better results with this or that laser”. I have a friend I took to get Alex with me, he did one session then he actually realized he had a doctor friend that does laser as well much cheaper for him so he switched. He then told me the laser name and said he’d get me in there. Of course it was an IPL and not even laser, yet no matter what I said, he was convinced it was the best because this doctor told him so. In fact, he even pasted me a blurb stating why it was better which was from the clinics website. A simple google of it showed that statement was taken right from the Palomar website stating that it’s the best method for hair removal. No matter what I said he wouldn’t listen, he basically told me his friend’s a doctor and knows more than I do. I told him, it’s like going into a Toyota dealership looking for a car. Obviously they’re going to tell you they’re the best and why not to go BMW or Mercedes or Honda etc. Because they have a financial interest in the product they have.

It’s probably best you don’t keep this thread updated because to be honest no one here really cares about your progress, unless of course laser doesn’t work for you, then please post your sob story, I’m sure we’d all find it very amusing.

You can’t judge permanence yet. Just because the hair sheds doesn’t mean the follicle was permanently disabled. If you still maintain the reduction you got from your treatment in 6+ months then you’ll know for sure that the treatment was effective.

Sorry you feel as if you didn’t receive any helpful advice on the forum, but I wouldn’t discredit the members here. Without their advice, a lot of us (myself included) would be getting ineffective treatments and pouring our money down the drain without ever figuring out why.

To chime in on KLT55, if it wasn’t for this forum I’d still be paying to get IPL treatments and not even know the difference between it and alexandrite. This forum in fact has got me so interested in laser that I’ve become an ambassador for it basically, helping anyone whenever I can and enjoy posting on here. I’m pretty sure that my posts have helped several people on here, with LAGirl’s helping hundreds more.

I know, i shouldve said “Proof that it permanently reduces hair for 2 months and counting” but I hate to type too much, so yeah. Its not that I didnt receive helpful advice, its that people for some reason love to be condescending pricks when talking to me, and this happens no matter which board, user name or net persona I use, its been a pattern for a while and gets SERIOUSLY ANNOYING.

And edokid, if you were smart you would do some research and look up IPL and alexandrite on wikipedia and learn. You dont need this board for that. I researched laser extensively before I got my first treatment and thats why i’ve asked questions nobody could answer on here. This board has only helped you cuz you cant help yourself.

Oh god, you don’t even deserve replies yet I can’t resist it. You pretty much just said that you’re the reason that people are pricks to you, since you use different boards and names and people act the same. I get nothing by friendly helpful advice no matter what board I use, whether this one, an SAP ERP board, Linux, iPhone whatever!

As for your second statement, sure that makes sense when you’re into it! But why would I or anyone really do that honestly? I realize hey I don’t like this hair here, isn’t there laser hair removal that can get rid of that? Wait a second my good friend works at a clinic let me see if I can get a deal and if they do it.

Not only does she do it herself (as in gets treatments, not performs them) but I get $100 vs $300 they normally charge so I go in. I’ve never seen anything about laser or how it works, so what the tech there tells me I completely believe and understand. The research I did before was watching youtube videos on the procedure which at the time pretty much were all LightSheer which guess what, that’s what my clinic used. The only difference was it was the IPL module not the diode which I didn’t find out until after my 4th session because I didn’t even know the difference.

My point is that as an average consumer, why would I even stop to think that maybe there’s different types of lasers? When you go to a dentist for a cleaning you don’t say, oh what type of water pik do you use just so that I get the best treatment do you?

My point is that as an average consumer, why would I even stop to think that maybe there’s different types of lasers?

Umm, because its a device strong enough to fuck your skin up for life and its practitioners are not licensed doctors and the practice itself has little government regulation since its not considered a medical procedure, and so it does not have to abide by the same high standards, like a dental clinic would? Because you can end up like this, maybe? http://www.hairfacts.com/medpubs/lasergen/overtreat.html

Does your mom know you are playing with those funky things she saw on Star Wars? She be very concerned about your irresponsibility.

What does seeing someone’s results where the technician clearly didn’t know what they were doing and burned the patient have anything to do with me doing research on the different types of lasers available before going for a treatment? Just because you research everything last detail (as obvious by your non stop threads questioning everything) doesn’t mean the world does. I’m sure lots of people have been injured at the dentist, or during surgery, or given a bad treatment by a dermatologist. Just because one person does doesn’t mean it’s going to happen to me. Youtube is full of old videos showing people who were burned, most are skin type 5 or 6 being treated with a regular laser too high. If anything one should research reputable clinics to go to which I did, as my good friend works there and several friends have gone there as well. I fail to see why it would cross my mind to question what products they use. When my friend says “Yeah we do laser hair removal, Sarah is amazing at it she does my you know what and I have great results” why would I say “Ahhh okay, now tell me what type of laser do you use?” It’s easy to say you’d ask that question now since you know about them but when you don’t, you don’t ask that.

What does seeing someone’s results where the technician clearly didn’t know what they were doing and burned the patient have anything to do with me doing research on the different types of lasers available before going for a treatment?

Because it could have happened to you, LHR technicians arent requried by law to know what they are doing. On the other extreme, if they use too LOW settings they can make your hair worse, or totally nothing while you still spend big bucks.

Tell me something before I leave, was your comment about me doing excessive research a compliment, a flame or both? Because from the tone of all the posts directed at me, the impression I get is “u r dumb, u no nuthing bout dis, u need to look it up and read b4 asking dumb questions k?”

I’ve patiently read this entire thread. Murach, the answers to the questions you’ve asked are available on this site, elsewhere on the internet, and from non-electronic sources. I suggest that you’ll be more likely to get that information if you’ll tone down your profanity, be less demanding of strangers, and quit treating others as though they’re all imbeciles. Everyone here who has answered you has been kind and patient, perhaps too patient.

My personal experience with LHR was that it successfully removed hair on my shoulders and back, but not without some burning, like a mild sunburn. I wasn’t about to try the same thing on my face. For facial hair, I’ve used electrolysis and can see areas that are now hairless, and other areas, still in progress, where there is clear reduction. By the way, you’re comparing apples and oranges when you compare a LHR session to time spent undergoing electrolysis. Electrolysis is done by the hour, or parts thereof, and unless you have remarkable pain tolerance or use medication, you won’t want to do much more than 2 hours at a time.

I take and took personal responsibility for choosing these modalities for my own hair removal. I did not make demands on the laser operator or electrologists that would raise the impression that I was a customer who could never be satisfied. I don’t perform hair removal, but I perform another service for people. The prospective client I avoid is the one who arrives, armed with a little knowledge, and wants to argue with me over how I do my job. That client can almost never be satisfied, and I prefer to preserve my peace of mind, at the expense of turning away such people.

You… have not told me anything I did not already know. I already had one laser treatment and I did not even have a mild sunburn by the time I got home. My electrolysis appointment is already set and final and in a couple days from now, I merely announced it and asked no questions.

“Permanency” can only be judged after at least 6-12 months of no treatment, not 2.

I’m the one who edited Wikipedia.

You’re posting pictures to be judged by experts (to get advice) and to help other consumers who’re looking to get the procedure done. I don’t get anything out it. My life is not affected whether you’re hairy, not hairy, or don’t exist. I also don’t make any money out of anything on this forum, so whether it’s successful or not doesn’t impact me in any way.

I bet you’re real fun to be around.

I tried electrolysis last week and I am way disappointed. Firstly, it hurt more than laser, the swelling and redness from just the couple hairs she’s done on my chest took forever to alleviate (I still got red spots there) so theres no way in hell i’m letting that needle come anywhere near my face, especially my lip where all the nerves are highly concentrated. Call me a pussy but whatever, the bottom line is that it isnt cost effective. Now i’ll have to think about what to do with all the blonde and red hairs on my face that wont be affected by laser, i’ll probably have to leave them.

Laser appointment is next week.

I bet you’re real fun to be around.

You arent too dumb after all it seems :open_mouth:

Hi Murach:

Actually if you really wanted those facial hairs gone, you wouldn’t let a teency, weency bit of pain bother you.

Seriously though it helps to take some painkiller such as tylenol or advil before treatment as well as apply some emla
beforehand while carefully following the instructions as to the application procedure.

I did it, but I needed it and wanted it bad, and that ain’t good
as the old song goes.

what an obnoxious boy. why are you guys even wasting your energy on him? i’m really surprised he hasn’t been banned for antisocial behaviour.

I thought he had left, since his post on April 1st sounded like he was leaving this forum. How unfortunate!

James was going to put him on “time out” for his awful behavior, but then he quieted down so I don’t think anyone gave it another thought.

Based on his current behavior and previous comments, he definitely gets my vote for being voted off the island (if we’re taking votes, that is).

Woohoo my backup is here! writes Murach on the paper and puts it in the pot

Sigh… okay, enoughs enough.

I voluntarily come here, to generously donate my time and clinical information, asking though not expecting any knowledgeable advice, to be bitched at and called names?

Ive been an internet connoisseur and technophile for a long time, ive had a fucking wacky fanboy faith in the power of the internet and beauty of the information age, being inhabitated by intelligent, funny and educated people, but i keep being proven wrong, every fucking time.
Perhaps the popular notion that the internet is just filled with lonely attention whores, mentally ill weirdos, and creepy pedophiles is founded after all.

I decided to post the pics and keep the journal updated because I know I wished I could have access to a database of before-after pictures categorized under different lasers and settings, so I could make the best informed, unbiased decision of what kind of treatment to get. So I wanted to do my part to make that wish a reality, but seeing as how many of you act like whiny pieces of inbred shit, I really dont think you goddamn DESERVE it. Maybe I assumed that everyone who would benefit from my contribution would be a cool and decent dude like me, then again I highly doubt anyone remotely educated would ever seek reliable information from the internet… except for me, cuz I am that fucking delusional.

Next time you protest about someone budging in line, cutting you off traffic or generally having disregard for your pathetic existence, think of me, because ill be sure to maximize my “antisocial” behavior, not because I want to, but because you keep proving to be undeserving of any charitable impulse left in me.

No need to reply.

Thanks for listening, fuck you and good night.

Don’t you just love how ignorant people can’t communicate their frustration without resorting to cuss words and self-martyrdom?

Murach: Nobody was going to get mad at you today until you implied LAgirl is dumb (or rather that she appears dumb upon first inspection). She is without a doubt the most knowledgeable person here regarding lasers.

You think you’re being bullied, but don’t you see that WE all think YOU’RE bullying US? Maybe it’s on accident, but you marched onto our forum and started being mean and you victimize us, not vice-versa. If you don’t like mean people, that’s understandable. But you need to be nice too.

Murach I had no problem with you at all. It’s the fact that you have to swear every second sentence in your posts that bugs me. I have nothing against swearing, I do it all the time with friends, especially when drinking. But when you see it on a forum where people are being polite and professional and you’re throwing attitude out for no reason then swearing, it just looks completely stupid. You seem to have a lot of hate for some reason.
