Face Shaving Basics

This is a little embarrassing, but I am at a loss otherwise… I am 18 and just barely started shaving. However, it is just my mom and me and I don’t have any older brothers or anything like that to help teach me (and let’s just say my first few experiences with the razor haven’t been too pretty). If anyone has some advice on like what razors to use, creams, or techniques, me and my face would greatly appreciate it!
(Looking at the other threads…should I be waxing or sugaring my face???)

Welcome to Hairtell.
OK… as most males when they get to the age of needing to shave try different things out. Some look forward to it others don’t. Latter on basicly all males hate shaving because it gets to be such a choir just like women hate shaving parts of thier body.
If you want to shave with a hand razor maybe something like the mach III or the new quad would be nice since I hear the are great even for pube areas. Shaving with hair conditioner seens to help in shaving and not give you razor burns and drying out skin.
A electric razor has basicly two type the foil and rotary.
They both work well but then again you have to shave everyday and then you will have them stubs.
You did mention wax/thread and there are also Rotary Epilators that males use on their faces for a much smoother look and feel.
Waxing/threading will keep your face looking smooth and very clean but you have to wait until the hair is 6mm long till you can wax again.
A epilator you can use when you see the hair get over 1mm long so every 2 or 3 days would be the norm.

Hope this info gave you a starting point?

Thanks a lot, Aguila- definitely a good start. I am having a problem with what seems to be “razor rash” where my face just looks really broken out in red bumps after I’ve shaved. I don’t know if it’s just me, or if I’m doing something wrong. Perhaps I’ll give the hair conditioner a try as these aftershave lotions just don’t seem to cut it. I’m definitely over the initial excitement of shaving- especially being the last of my friends to start haha

A lot of people get them reds when they first start shaving anyplace and most people’s skin get’s used to it, however some people need things like lotions with aloe and things like that during and afterwards. Don’t worry, with some gud ole “trail and error” you’ll figure out what works best for your skin.

Also, be sure you to keep your face extra clean daily to keep the reds away, maybe try using a natural sponge to get a gud cleaning to open all them pores and things.
