Face laser and sun

How long after having LHR on ones face should sun be avoided? Smae question regarding arms and legs ?

The facility should have provided you with this information. Did they forget to do that?

Once you begin the journey of LHR, sun should be avoided permanently until you are completely finished.

Since you need to go out, make sure you have your sunblock on and repeat as necessary.

No that is not what I was told. I was told that laser would not react with sun and that if i had a slight tan on body that NAg can handle tanned skin!

What made you decide to check with us?
Are you not sure to follow their advice?

Laser doesn’t react with sun. True.

YAG lasers can be safely used to treat tanned skin. True.

But…

At relatively LOW settings. The more tanned you are, the lower the settings will be.

Arlene, I like to research and talk to people and get as much info as I can. ANd yes I would say there hasn’t been much told to me and I appreciate the info available on this forum. The More info I read better informed i can be !

Mumbaigirl, I am not at all tanned but was concerned about my face being in sun after laser session or some time afterward. Of course come summer within the timeframe of LHR I may get sun as at this point I am going to guess it will take a while!

Hi Danika, what is your skin typed as?

type 2 -3

WHOA! I just read this in a forum online…Please don’t tell me that you can NEVER TAN after having LHR !!!
“Hi, I genetically have vitiligo and searched for 5 years for a derm that wasn’t ignorant about it. I had vit on the lower half of my face on my back and chest, and my dad’s vitiligo progressed over his entire body. I was able to treat it 99% with the extrac laser at St. Jude Medical Ctr. and a UVB lamp that I bought from ebay from Israel. Skin pigment comes from your hair follicle and now that that it has been overly killed off you would need melanin from surrounding areas. My friend told me she got some minor white spots that’s why I never did it knowing my condition. If you want my help, I can give you more details to help you fix it as much as possible”

You can

Does that mean you shouldn’t tan at all while undergoing laser, or only the parts being treated?

I do a lot of cycling, so my arms and legs are quite tan while my back and chest is pale. If I’m only getting back treated, is this okay, or does untreated portions of the skin transfer the heat (which is my understanding screws things up) to the treated portions?

Only the parts being treated.

It’s okay. I’d still advise you use a sunscreen on your back though. SPF 30+
