Equipment Decisions - Apilus Senior 3G or Xcell?

Hello, I’m just starting up my business. I’m having troubles deciding between the Senior 3G or the Xcell Pro. I haven’t worked with 27 megahertz and I’m hoping to get some feedback about it.

Thank you!

Yesterday I had a 4 hour treatment on my back with the Xcell Pur and no comparison to other devices.

Less pain sensitization and clearly less damage to the skin. Actually I am quite envy to all Xcell owners and would upgrade immediately if I had the financial possibilities.

Always get the very best you can.
It could be one of the things that would influence customers to choose you over someone with more experience.

I was also treated with an XCell Pro last time (previous 2 electrologists used older machines). It hurt less although since I know better, it was more likely due to the skill of the electrologist and not the machine. Also, the last one was using insulated probes and the others did not so I assume that was a factor too.

I agree with James - I do have to admit that seeing the nice shiny XCell Pro probably introduced some bias in my mind. And this is considering that I already know that skill is far more important than the machine. Most people are less informed and they would probably sway towards the person with the nicer newer machine. The XCell Pro is really nice to look at.

Thank you! Do you know if the electrologist was using insulated probes on your back or regular?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I’m definitely leaning towards the Xcell, I’m still not sure what to think about insulated probes but I guess I can play with them if I get the machine.

FWIW, my current electrologist said she only uses insulated probes.

I’m going to be getting an up close and personal look at the xcell and the platinum pure epilators at Dectro in the next two weeks. I will be comparing them side by side with my now aging SM-500 which is another 13.56 mhz epilator . I wouldnt feel the 3g would give me much advantage over what I have now.I’ll report back when we do.I havent had any luck finding anyone local who uses either of these epilators. As James points out, there can be some competitive advantage to having the shiniest toy, but at 11000 for the Xcell, those shiny toys cost has to be considered too.

We use insulated probes mostly so I’m certain that is what will be in use when we do our testing.

I used the Senior 3G, Platinum and Xcell while I Was at school. I didn’t bother with the Junior or Cleo, having felt that the features of the Senior were the minimum I could go with as a professional.

My impression at the time, was that the Senior does an adequate job, but I preferred the Platinum over it. The Xcell I felt was more of a gimmick, largely because Silhouet-Tone came out with a machine with a touch screen, and the school (which is also a Dectro vendor) told us there wasn’t much reason to get an Xcell over the Platinum and that they hadn’t sold any yet at that time. I also really disliked the slow start up delay on the Xcell and flat out hated the touch screen interface.

I had wanted to go with the Platinum, but when I was forced to self finance my business startup, at nearly half the cost, I went with the Senior. Much as my assessment was back then, it is certainly adequate for what I do, but I do feel its limitations at times. My business has grown to the point where I’m going to be forced to expand soon and I’ll buy a Platinum for myself, give the Senior to my apprentice to use and eventually, once I pay off the cost of expanding, will likely get another Platinum for her, relegating the Senior to my backup machine. I’d go for an Xcell for the extra features, but I can’t get over the interface - I find it totally cumbersome and unbearable, particularly if you’re going to tweak your settings instead of using the defaults. Maybe I didn’t give it enough time, but I hate smartphones for similar reasons - the tool gets in my way.

As far as probes go, they’re another tool… sometimes insulated probes are better, sometimes, stainless ones are. Sometimes, I like a 2 piece, sometimes, I like a 1 piece. I like having a lot of different tools, so I can use the treatment that I feel is most appropriate for my current needs.

I’m really excited to get to try both machines. A bit like a kid in a candy store. This trip has the potential to put a serious dent in my wallet. Outfitting equipment is doing that anyway without travelling to the shangrilah of electrolysis equipment.

I’ve purchased the Platinum Pure from Dectro.

From time to time, Dectro offers used equipment (floor model) at a discount.

Thanks Lucie,

Not sure a floor model is what the person buying is after,I’m not sure. What’s your opinion on the platinum pure? Do you find it has been beneficial to client comfort?

I own an XCell Pro. Dectro does my make the Platinum any more. You can only buy the Pure. The XCell Pro replaced the Platinum.

The XCell Pro is fabulous. Well worth the money. I love the screen. I love the management system and the printer - so much quieter and easier to use than the old Platinum, I keep statistics and many of my clients follow those numbers right with me. I don’t understand anybody saying they don’t love this unit. It is lovely and meets every detail of professionalism and is very easy to use. I wouldn’t fart around with anything else but the best Dectro has to offer. In fact, I probably would close up shop if I couldn’t have this unit. I’m very spoiled now.

Your drawer should have all kinds of probes. You will come to know when you need a Laurier IPB or a Ballet gold or a Pro-Tec. Don’t limit yourself. Try them all.
