Emla and Lidocaine

Hello,

They told me in the pharmacy that Emla is no longer produced. Is lidocaine just as effective. So far I’ve tried neither. What was the active ingridient in Emla (could it be just lidocaine?)?

If you use anesthetics, how can you tell if you’re being overtreated? I don’t want to have scars.

Thank you.

Lidocaine cream doesn’t seem to do anything at all. What else is available to control the pain?

Thanks.

Emla has 2.5% lidocaine and 2.5% prilocaine.

I’m assuming that you are in the US…my understanding is that the FDA wants the manufacturer to repackage the tubes so that they are childproof. I had also heard that it was supposed to available again this summer, but that info was from earlier this year so things may have changed. Anyhow, emla is available in Canada at a much reduced price than you would get it for in the US. I ordered mine from Canada (and stocked up with some extra) without any problems at all.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply. Reduced price also sounds very tempting. Did you order it through a website? Which one?
