Elos hair removal ?

What do we know about Elos hair removal ? The specialist showed me this machine with two zapper things one for laser hair removal and one for tattoo removal … it also had 6 options like skin rejuvination and stuff

I believe it’s an IPL machine because she said it wouldn’t harm my beauty marks/moles which I know laser would …

She tried it on my face (I’m a guy) and it hurt so that’s a good sign right ? She told me numbing creams wouldn’t be necessary but I’m gonna need some at least on my face after experiencing the pain.

I believe it was set on 25 or 27 j/cm^2 or something… she said that was good for a Fitspatrick 2-3 like myself.

No replies ? Do you hate me because I’m hairy :frowning:

What’s the question?

Elos is an IPL and I believe the claims for “seeing” light hair have been heavily discussed here over the years. Type in Elos in the search box in the top right hand corner. It has not received good reviews from consumers on this website.

Not sure which machine you’re referring to but I used the Me Power Elos for a while with no results. Depending on your skin and hair type, it simply may not be powerful enough. I am black/native american with medium brown skin and dark hair and it did almost nothing. I wasted $450 on that blasted thing!!!

Really? It’s not a DIY machine it’s used by a specialist… I have pale skin and dark hair.

Type ’ Aurora Elos’ into the search box. It is not a DYI IPL. The home brands are not strong enough to affect hair.

ELOS is the compination of either a stron professional grade IPL or a Laser device with a setup which claims to emit an electrical RF field into the skin - in am manner that should affect the hairs stronger than the surrounding tissue.

There has been some theory published on the physics. The problem in that paper is that they did not take into account of the finite wavelength of the field and did their calculation as if the wavelength was infinitesimally short. Actually RF wavelengths of several meters appear to be used. Therefore You simply cannot resolve structures as fine as hairs (btw fully in analogy to geophysical prospection with RF fields emitted into the earths surface, just on a different scale - the wavelength used determines the spatial resolution toward structural details…).

Another problem of the ELOS RF implemetation is that the currents are emitted through a watery gel. The latter has a very low electrical resistivity, henceforce most of the RF current will not enter the skin - also not treated in the theory papers presented by the manufacturer some years ago.

What remains: ELOS can be safely regarded as either a powerful professional IPL device which can actually remove hairs if applied in a professional manner or it is a powerful laser hair removal device.

Correction: short time ago i read about an IPL based Elos device for home use. What will remain in the light of my explanations? Yes, right, just another flash light device for DIY hair removel. And the flash light devices for home use are limited in power - which is really good considering the large and deep skin damages a professional grade hair removal machine is able to achieve.

So you think I should try a session ? I’m buying 5 for my face for a discount and one for most of my upper body… it’s 500 NIS for 5 full beard/neck treatments and 1000 NIS for most of the upper body… I found the place friendly and professional and I liked it and they like me lol

You’ll be back here next year with all the hair. Those IPL things never work. It might be a quick fix, but it’s not a permanent one. If you must use a light based hair removal, use an actual laser.

Selling multiple treatments in advance is attractive mostly to the vendor, not to the client!

People who honestly want to achieve results won’t do this. In my IPL treatments i simply got discounts after some treatments, and i was not required to buy lots of treatments and lots of uncertainty in advance.

And how were your results with IPL ?

The clinic sounded very confident about their product…

Got my first treatment thursday… don’t see anything noticible yet… hmm… woman told me to come back in 3 weeks told her that’s too soon she said come in 4 weeks… it was painful although i had taken Ibuprofen 600 mg and 200 mg Tramadol … hurt less on my face because I had used 5% lidocaine there.

Tramadol 200 mg?

Well, at least you were really happy!

Tramadol!! My mum has been prescribed this due to an extreme painful hip, she is booked in for a hip replacement on 17 th Nov, but she is completely knocked out by the Tramadol, surely you have not been prescribed this for laser hair removal. Also side effects can leave you feeling pretty depressed .

My spouse takes Tramadol 50MG for arthritic inflammation. Bottle says take one every 6 hours as needed for pain. No noticeable side effects. Her doctor is real big on it, because it’s not addictive. The not addictive part is per the doc.

I’m surprised you had to take it for laser too, laserboy. I was on the stuff for a few months for crippling headaches and it took me off to fairyland when I was on it.
Ozarksace- I was told it WAS addictive by a doctor and a neurologist. That’s why I was only allowed to be on it for about three months.

Also isn’t four weeks way, way too soon to zap the hair again? Or does does this treatment work differently to laser?

I know it’s addictive I’m only taking it for the IPL sessions
I got a prescription from a doctor I know… same one who’s gonna prescribe me injectible lidocaine for my face the next time I get a session.

The thing is I have a very low pain threshold I don’t want the technician to put me on lower less effective settings… so I do what I can!

with the results I did see some shedding on my chest, armpits and lower arm… although she has missed a few spots that grew normally… asked her beforehand if she does touch-ups she said no … so next time I’ll tell her not to miss any spots or else I’ll have to pay for every other session!

face saw no results… although it’s the palest skin/darkest hair ever! she lowered the setting from 30 to 25 because she didn’t wanna hurt me… next time she better set it at freakin 40!

What she does is she puts the laser thing on an area and it keeps heating up till I tell her I can’t take it anymore… then she moves on… and that’s why I need a higher threshold so I can tell her to stop later (certain areas I can count to 3… others 4… others 12!)

I’m gonna ask her to try a more random zapping instead of concentrating on one area… I think it can target more hairs and hurt less… because I have hair stairs on my stomach from the place she did and missed.

Seriously: You should consider Electrolysis in the face. And You should conder waxing ot shugaring the othe areas 6 weeks before ELOS. Reason: You’ll force the hairs into anagen giving them the darkest possible follicles.
