A warning to potential clients of electrolysis.
I have gone to a few different people for electrolysis. One woman used a big magnifying glass with a light, and I think that was good. One worked bare-eyed and seemed good. But one woman, used massive magnifying glasses, and I think really her eyesight was nearly gone. I picked up the hand mirror and watched. She was sticking the probe in random places, and when I pointed out a remaining coarse hair, that I could feel and also see with the hand mirror, she couldn’t find it!
So when you get electrolysis, pick up that hand mirror they have beside you and watch what they’re doing. They should be getting the probe down inside each hair follicle, and if they don’t seem to be doing that, run!
Hi Normalish. There are inept people everywhere. I am still looking for a great dentist!
Your suggestion about observing a bit with a mirror is an excellent idea.
I hope you find a skilled electrologist with quality tools.
If you let us know where you are located, perhaps someone here, one who uses their real name and can be held accountable, can make a suggestion.
All the best.
Good suggestion about mirror.
The one with the massive magnifying glasses leaves me with many questions that you can’t answer. Custom fit surgical loupes like dentists and doctors wear are better than the setup’s of the first two electrologists you described hands down. The third electrologist you saw was not using the glasses properly or she would have been dead on with her insertions. She may have purchased glasses that are wrong for her needs? Maybe you were making her nervous with that mirror??
Your suggestion is well taken, but the comparisons you make leaves one thinking that those without a proper magnification setup see better than the one who appeared to have a great magnification setup. 'Tis not so, but many can still do proper insertions without excellent vision tools, What is the price to be paid? What will their eyesight be like a few years down the road? How many treatments can they do in a day’s time before they get a headache? Will they have neck and back problems years later? Are they able to observe the slightest change in the skin surface alerting them that the intensity and timing need to be adjusted. Those are some reasons why PROPER surgical magnification is good for the busy electrologist and the hopeful client. There are many more advantages that I won’t explain at the present time.
Did you tell #3 that she was making her own holes in your skin? You’d be doing her a big favor so she can have a fruitful business for many years.

I agree totally with Dee in her response and Arlene makes some great points, too. In my opinion, the circle lamp with a magnified lense will not provide the best lighting and magnification. The “massive magnifying glasses” do provide better magnification - and I’ll bet she found that one hair after you pointed it out.
Arlene, check out www.yelp.com for dentist recommendations in NYC. There are several very good ones
