Electrolysis treatment for male back in London

First I want to apologize if similar topic was already opened (I wasn’t able to find it).

Now my question is…

Could anyone recommend a good salon in London that is willing to do the treatment on male’s back? I’ve done 9 Laser treatments and the residual hair is too fine for laser to have any effect.

Could also anyone give me a rough guideline for how many treatments should I expect - how much time does it take (year or more)?
What about budget (would 1000-1500£ do the job)?
I know that this varies a LOT depending on specific case - but any input (from-to) is very welcomed.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Without seeing the density or thickness of the hair it is difficult to give you answers. Treatment could vary from 15 hours to 50 hours plus, also prices charged range from £40- £75 per hour. Book a few consultations, look for experience and skill, preferably with someone that exclusively does electrolysis or at least does it regularly at their clinic/salon. The British institute can be a good starting point www.electrolysis.co.uk.

Hi Mhawkes,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Here is the photo of my back :

What am I looking is to reduce the density of hair - it doesn’t need to be completely gone - just to be less visible.

Now I am in London and for me a boig issue I really can do treatments just in London.

Could anybody put some more info ? :))

Just in case anyone wants to disagree with me or put in a different perspective, this is what I have suggested to Many_Q’s:

To think about traveling to Mairi for a few days for initial clearance.

Then, if subsequent clearances with Mairi are out of the question, to see Follizap for maintenance.

I just don’t think Parkside are equipped to handle this kind of work, especially in regards to lighting and magnification. Also, as explained in my sister’s diary I feel the regrowth amounts are on the higher side. I can’t compare directly to Mairi or Folli, since I’ve never had treatment with either, but I am fairly confident the results will be better (or at least equal).

I do still recommend them for facial work though, so don’t get me wrong.

Stoppit, do you mind me asking who Follizap is? Where is he/she based?

Still04 it is a man! Follizap, based in chessington, has apilus machine!

Hi many Q,
Looking at the photo it could be between 6-10 hours to clear depending on electrologist, and method used. Also how long is it since your last laser treatment? It will take at least 6 months before the majority of regrowth has come through.
More important than speed is correct insertion and smooth removal of hair. Stoppit has been very good to recommending
me, however I know the logistics of such a long journey are not always feasible. Try some consultations, I’m not familiar with London electrologist, gain as much info as you can from this forum especially from the likes of Josefa and James Walker. They are both very good at articulating exactly what to expect when it comes to good electrolysis.

Hi Mairi,

The reason I suggested yourself is because I know what is available in London pretty well, having gone through all this myself a few years previously. And also drawing on the experiences of other London based HairTell users who I have communicated with.

Clearance will take on the longer side 10 hours + and it will not be possible in one or even two sessions. I also feel that (with the exception of Follizap) no one is equipped to well see light coloured hairs.

As you say, the most important thing is proper treatment of the hairs. Many_Q’s was interested in the Parkside ladies but their regrowth is on the higher side, meaning that many treated hairs are not being killed. After stopping laser on my underarms, I waited a year to begin electrolysis for what was left. It became frustrating because I had many clearances and still hair kept reappearing (it did get less but upto a point which we couldn’t seem to get over). Finally, when I saw Josefa last year, she cleared each (took 10-15 mins each) and what has grown back could now be cleared in 1-2mins. That was 8 months ago, I don’t even shave now, just occasionally trim. In my sister’s diary, I also discuss the eyebrow work she had there.

Personally, as people may have guessed, I would rather travel and spend a few days with someone I can know remove all or most of the hair and can give a good indication of how many clearances might be required. When it’s a small area, like the upper lip, somewhere like Parkside is fine in my opinion. But when you are working on the body, or something like my peach fuzz, which takes many hours of work to treat every present hair even once, then you would be wasting a huge amount of money if 50% or more was to grow back.

Still - You can read Geeza’s thread to see Follizap’s work in action.

hi stoppit, I would like to get to Josefa myself. Even though you have spent time and money going to her, as you know many others have wasted much more having bad treatment. I have only been back in Uk since last year and was hoping for a better response from industry. Also since not all electrologists have an online presence I was hoping Many Q may find one through some consultations. The problem in the Uk is that electrolysis is treated as a sideline to beauty therapy with many so called ‘electrologist’ on doing 1-2 hours or less a week.

Hi Mairi, exactly. If I have an aim or agenda, it is just to prevent people from wasting their time and money.

Myself, smurf, tealight and others from London/the South, did try to find suitable electrologists here before making the journey to Josefa. You are absolutely correct in saying not everyone has an online presence and we have searched beyond this.

I would not prevent anyone from continuing to search though.

Mairi it’s sad to see how an entire industry can be directed by the favors given to a few, but when logic goes out the window it becomes obvious…

Hi Mhawkes,

I did my last laser treatment 4-5 months ago. Well these images could maybe give a wrong impression of size of my back that should be treated.

Here is the photo that I took 2 years ago before taking any laser treatments - it probably shows the size better.

What I am looking doesn’t need to be a complete removal of all hair. I would be happy with decent reduction just to get less visible effect.

It seems really hard to find an electrolysis in London.

Does anybody knows anything about Sheerbliss? I was in their salon today in Dalston by chance. They said they are doing man electrolysis and they are charging £40 per hour.

I don’t know anything about them, sorry.

Go for a consultation?

And definitely go for a consultation at Parkside and one with Follizap too, then. At least you will have a point of comparison as to what good treatment is if you are checking out other places.

Hi Stoppit,

I haven’t got a consultation yet. I would probably spend some time finding out the best solution for me. (london based)

at parkside 10 hours is £570, so let’s say I take two of these - would it be reasonable to expect I could get up to 3 clearances with 20 hours (it’s not a full back as you can see in my first photos)? And after 3 clearances what is the reduction I could expect - 40-50%?

The thing is I don’t really mind if very light or fine hair remain as those are hard to see anyway. I would be happy with the most dark more visible hair gone.

Hi Many,

Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

The electrologists i trialed in my area were poor the teaching colleges abysmall,
in fact one of the Electrologists i visited specialising since the 70’s !! and using Apilus told me the area I wanted treated was too large and how its quite stressfull for an electrologist to work on someone for two hours I replied well you have three of them couldnt another take over ?

So disallusioned I started Diy Electrolysis saved a lot of money too and spent a lot of time near the end of my journey now I found a great Electrologist eventually who does the areas I can not reach.

For most UK residents a trip to Oban or Malaga could save you time money and frustration

I would guess maybe 10hours you dont seem to have that much hair

Thanks Stoppit and Geeeza!

Dear Many,

Just a side note from the hair issue - are you getting your numerous moles on your back checked once a year?

To answer your question, Josefa, Many Q’s is 25 years old.

25 years old, ummm who would deal with this back should tell him that the surface has not yet completed the entire hair development.
