Well Iv’e decided to venture away from my favourite haunt the Laser/light forum to ask a quick question.
I understand the main concepts of electrology, such as the different hair cycle, the differences between the three methods, equipment, precision, permanency and so on. But I was wondering if it is possible to thin out hair rather than removal it all completly.
The main area that I want to thin out is my beard, of course the hair is the thickest there, but not insanley thick, theres just a lot of it. I find it painful to shave and can only do it about once every 3 of 4 days to make sure that the hairs are long enough, as to not to cause irritation.
Would I need to do electrolysis for 4 and a half months lets say instead of 9 to thin it out?
Or 3 or 4 full clearances over certain parts of a year?
I’m not using laser on my face primarily because I have seen the results of others and I don’t particurally wish to run that risk. I know I’m still growing and my face will develop more hairs until/around about 25, but I wouldn’t mind just getting started now.
How you go about it depends on what you have available.
If you were working with me, I could give you full clearances at different times of the year, leading to a thinned out beard all year around.
If you are working with people who can’t clear out a full beard in a day or 3, you would have to just work on methodical treatment of the beard a little at a time, but keyed towards reducing the total number of hairs over the whole face.
You just want to get us in trouble with the Electrolysis Mafia [grin]
If we were to assume that the treatment area were clearable in one session, taking place in one day, and you went once every 6 weeks, you could be finished in 7 to 14 sessions, spread out over 9 to 24 months. Keep in mind, that the amount of time spent for each clearance would decrease after the second clearance, and the last ones might be measured in minutes instead of hours.
Well, in the model above, it was stated that assuming one could clear out ALL THE HAIR in one sitting. Of course, the only thing I know that would do that in the case of most faces, would be microflash or picoflash thermolysis.
When you say the last couple of full clearances might be measured in minutes rather than hours, would the hair actually stay that thinned out?
Sorry for asking so many questions I’m just trying to work out the best way to tackle this. I basically want about a 50% reduction in my facial hair, which I know isn’t the simplest of processes.
You just want me to write more long winded stuff that is already on the site if one does a search or reads the full content of the site.
One the first day of electrolysis, one has many hairs in many different stages of the hair life cycle.
Although one may cosmetically clear out all the hairs in a treatment area on the first treatment, some of those hairs were in the proper stage for best treatment, and others were not. Those that were in the proper stage are gone and gone for good, if they are treated with the proper treatment energy. Those that were not in the proper stage will return next year, although some will return in a thinner, weaker state. It is at this point that one can either move for full permanent hair removal on the fastest schedule (by keeping the new full clearances on schedule so that hairs are treated before they have the time to exit the growth stages, and begin the shedding process) or can lose that opportunity by allowing the hairs from the next growth phase to come in, unassaulted, and get to the point where you once again have many hairs in many states of the hair life cycle.
In short, full permanent removal would be treatment no later than once every 6 to 8 weeks in the beginning, while thinning would be done no sooner than a full clearance once every 12 weeks.
something that has confused me, with regards to ‘thinning’ with electrolysis. Is how the practioner will be able to tell the difference between new hairs coming through and hairs that were ignored from the previous session.
Im sure a very skilled operator could tell the difference by looking at the hair, but as we all know, not all operators are that great.
FOr example - my back. There isn’t really enoguh to justify laser (plus i have alot of fine hair i dont want lasered) Yet, there is maybe a bit too much to have electrolysis on.
So if i have an hours worth of elec’ to try and thin the hair. Come a few weeks time when its coming back through, how can i be sure the practioner is going to get the new hairs that are in the right stage? Basically, i dont.
Im talking as if i haven’t done this yet, but i have. And this is the reason why i have stopped having it. Im unsure what to do now…
Shaving can help the practitioner identify GROWING hair. Just do it about three-five days before a treatment. Those active, hardy hairs just pop out after a good shave, while the dud shedder hairs lay lazily near the surface for days and days until they shed.
You know what I’m going to say next, don’t you?
A skilled microflash thermolysis practitioner can handle a man’s back hair, that is, if there are any to be found where you reside.
Thanks James, couldn’t really find much on thinning out male facial hair and the number of sessions and spacing. Although I seem to have a slight problem with finding things when I need them, regardless what it is. Sorry to be a pain.
You are not a pain at all. I just get a little salty sometimes. For that I apologize. We would rather you ask a question that was asked and answered a thousand times on here (just don’t be mad if someone just shoots you a link for an answer) than go off operating under a false pretense, or worse yet, patently misleading information.
We will do our best to take care of you all, just keep in mind that those of us volunteering our time don’t always have time to write “War & Peace”, and some of the simplest sounding questions, have some of the longest answers needed to truely explain something well.
