… short introduction
I have been doing electrolysis on my upper lip for about 7 years. I did experience some reduction but not even nearly as i would like to. I know now it shoudlnt have taken that long…( they were plucking as well instead of killing)
After that I had 2 treatements on my upper lip with ipl machine. Smart plus. I experienced no shedding at all.( i went there to complain 2 times and i got my money back)
I am now searching for new electrologist to do my upper lip and nipple area. I have decided not to try laser on my face nor on nipples.
I have black, brownish hair on my upper lip which are quite fine. The reason why they were not treated is cause my ex electrologist told me she cant see where to insert the needle as they are too fine.I estimate ( soo hard to do) that i have about 100-150 hairs which i would like to be gone.
On my nipple are i plucked the hairs which bothered mme. They are black and coarse. ( at leats the ones i would like to get ridd off. ) I have about 10, 15 hairs on each side…
I have visited 2 places so far.
-for the first place i went to i got recomendation from a friend. i had 3 hairs removed to see what it is like. I had to hold a metal piece in my hand. ( glavanic is it?. previously i was doing thermolysis) It hurted way more than i was expecting to. She held the needle insertetd way longer than on previous place i was going to. I didnt feel anything when she removed the hair out so i belive there was no plucking… However a month after i can still see some redness on those places. Is this normal?? I was told that scarying is possible but it is very rare.
second place they use tweezers, no inserting a needle. i was only explaind i havent seen them preforming… lady explained me that this is much better and easier to do cause all the hairs can be removed, even the very fine fines ones. I was told it would take about i year to be clear. There is no risk to get scars.
what do u think??
Non of those places are willing to treat anything but face area :-(( … dont understand…
P.s. there are no electrologist where i live. Not as a proffesion. Ladies who work in beatuy parlours are doing electrology and there are some dermatologist who are doing electrology as well. NOt easy eh?
When working on the upper lip, the lighting and visual aids are key to good work. If the electrologist can’t really see the follicle opening, they are just guessing on where to insert the probe and often end up making their own holes.
You have your work cut out for you in finding someone who has stumbled upon good technique. I would really look hard for the people who have invested in good equimpent. If they are all equally in the stone age, try them all and go with the person who gives the best results available in that area, or find someone better who requires a little travel. Since it is an upper lip, it won’t be hard to do with a practitioner who is some distance away.
You are in a real pickle. The electrologist situation doesn’t look good where you live. For those of you reading the 7 years part of the post above, I must tell you adamantly that there is something terribly wrong if one needs 7 years of electrolysis on the lip. NINE to TWELVE MONTHS for that area unless the electrologist one has hired is doped up on a tranquilizer’s or the client shows up for treatment whenever the spirit moves her.
Yes, good vision and light equipment are EXTREMELY important. If the person perfoming electrolysis does not have these important tools, then they have no business touching another human being. Same goes for the professional epilator they use. A modern professional electrologist can remove hair anywhere, permanently, in a very acceptable time frame if they are educated well and have excellent equipment.
The tweezer device can result in scarring. I’ve seen it happen!
Holding an electrode does not mean they used galvanic (in the states) but I don’t know about in Europe. If your skin stayed red for a month, then I would not choose that one.
Would you consider asking at the salons? There might be a really good practitioner there. Or consider the dermatologist - the thing is with them is they don’t perform this day in and day out we do…
-second place use tweezers to hold hair but they use current as well to destroy it ( aperently)
I already considerd traveling when i was trying to find the place for laser hair removal on my legs. That would have been easier since for laser i would only have to travel 3, 4 times a year and would still be effective. Eventually I have found the place here where i live which uses alexandrite laser…
I am going to check few more places here for electrology but i am becoming desperate…
Would it make sence to get 3, 4 clearences a year for my upper lip if nothing else is possible…i would still get some reduction right??? or not much use from that?
could i get clearence in 1 week ( 4,5 visits)?
I live in Balkan.
From what i heard in northen europe electrology is almost non existing as well…( apart from uk)
If they’re using a good alex laser for your legs, you may want to try a session on your lip as well. if your skin type is I-III, this area usually gets good results (compared to the rest of a woman’s face). If you don’t have other options nearby, it may be worth trying for 1 session to see how it goes. If the hair is dark, it may work.
A whole lot of ambitious, talented people could be making a very nice livihood by offering electrology services in Northern Europe if indeed the art and skill of performing electrology are absent here. So there are no electrology schools in Northern Europe?
Dectro International and Silhouet-Tone where are you? Northern Europe needs help. Sounds like a business oppotunity to me, but I’m thinking that these companies may already be there.
Keep us updated if you find some electrolysis services and good luck to you sincerely.
After doing some reserch i have decide to try few places and stuck with the one i will be most happy with.
SO, i had an appointment yesterday with lady i visited first.
It lasted, maybe, 10 minutes, not longer and she removed maybe 15 hairs…was making a long breaks between insertation… NOt much eh?
Anyways i didnt feel plucking sensation, so hopefully something little has been done.
We treated the area right under my nose. I am red now and i see small scabs are formed.
I wonder how long dos it normally take for scabs to fall off?
I was thinking to go ones more to the same place and than switch and try another one.
I would really like to get my fisrt clearence as soon as possible. I am red now anyways so few more scabs wont matter much…
Should i leave the area to heal or can i go again in few days?
Is it ok to put make up on it to cover the redness?
Let the area heal before your next treatment or you are risking a larger reaction. Make-up is never great so only put it on with a CLEAN sponge or applicator. The make-up itself has to be free from contamination as well. If you usually put it on with your fingers straight from the bottle don’t use it! If it is a stick you apply directly to your face every time, don’t use it. I use foundation that comes out of a small pump so I can’t contaminate the bottle with germs from my hands or face.
So, you are happy with 15 hairs in 10 minutes? If she is clean and does good work, then it is ok.
What kind of epilator and what method of electrolysis is she using???
Scabbing shows up in about 48 hours. DO NOT PICK THESE OFF THE SKIN. Can you sample more electrologists. Scabbing does not have to happen in this area.
A treated area needs at least seven days to heal before going back for more work, that is, if it is healed.
If she has good equipment with good skill you would not need anything to hide the redness. Keep watching the healing and compare electrologists.
NO, i am not happy with that speed. I was hoping that in 4, 5 visits i would get my clearence in a period of a month or so… I am not sure now how realistic that is?
I do know that with this speed i wont get there.
What conserns me way more is the scabs i have now.
First day i had white dots( not sure what that was?) where she inserted the probe and the second day those white dost become red… and now they are finnaly real scabs…
If i have to deal with these redness every time i go there… i will be red whole year!!!
I used to go to electrologist who never gave me scabs BUT i was going there for 7 years…ehe he
Is it really possible to get rid of the hairs without having to deal with the redness, scabs and embaressment that it causes. HONESTLY, is it?
I am not sure what method… i was told that the heat destroys the root. I had to hold a metal piece in my hand… galvanic is it? i dunno… which epilator? I dunno that either; i do know that it provides 26 V… it is nothing new, nothing fancy, i am sure of that.
ALl the salons i visited are doing electrology just as an addition to make money. It is not their main business,so they dont invest much in it…
I will keep searching although i am becoming tired of it…
thanks for ur responses
We keep reiterating on this website that it is without a doubt highly probable to get permanent hair removal with electrolysis and no one will know because skill, with the help of better tools, leaves the skin looking normal within a short period of time after a session.
Seven years to accomplish? No way. Rip-off. Probably plucking took place and not electrolysis. No schedule was adhered to??
Scabs, redness for days and days? Not necessary. There are ways to prevent this and probably someone that just does electrolysis on the side in a beauty shop is not going to give you the best care, as you have found. Do not blame electrolysis. It works. There are too many untrustworthy “practitioners” worldwide that have muddied the waters and now there are so many people like yourself that are tired of it and feel like giving up.
Are there only two people that perform electrolysis where you live? If not, keep trying as many as you can. Where do you live in Europe? Maybe someone here can connect you to a better place.
Sorry for your plight, but keep searching. we’ll try to help you.
I recently changed electrologists because the woman that I had been going to for 5 1/2 years closed her business and is renting space at a clinic too far away. The new woman that I just saw last week has been doing electrolysis for 30 years but I was horrified by the results that I received. I’m not sure what type of machine she is using but I do know it was the foot switch type. I saw her for a 30 minute session on the upper lip with a few of those minutes dedicated for the chin area. I could tell the heat was intense and I was red and oozing for the first day with swelling and scabbing the next. The swelling lasted 3 days and the scabbing for 5days. The scabs fell off after 5 days and non stop after care of witch hazel and neosporin and aloe vera.
What happened here? I never experienced anything like this with my first lady. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
Even the most sensitive faces can be treated well. Many things could have made for your rough healing time. Practitioner skill is one. Can she see well enough? What size probe was she using? Was the intensity and timing too high? Was her machine really old and hard to control, concerning the heat factor? I don’t expect you to know the answers to these questions, but rather am pointing out some details that matter. Using neosporin probabaly did not help the situation. Please don’t use that stuff for electrolysis aftercare.
I would call her and tell her about your skin side effects and I would tell her you are not coming back because of this reaction. Do search on as this IS NOT desirable end outcome for good electrolysis care. This is overtreatment beyond what is needed to destroy hair. Electrologists are not in the business of destroying skin. You will heal and do let it heal completely, just don’t repeat this kind of treatment again! Never pick any scabs that form. Let them fall off on their own.
Concerning the 5 1/2 years you spent seeing an electrologist before, that’s a whole different subject with it’s own set of problems. Why were you not finished within 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, months? Did you know this is more than possible with a modernly equipped and educated electrologist?? I don’t know where you live, but I sure hope you have other choices in your local area.
If you care to read more posts here on hairtell, you will quickly figure out that you need to be on a good schedule with a competent electrologist to remove hair permanently. This has not happened for you. Since I do not know the details of your situation, I can’t give you advice beyond this, but just so you know, there are better standards for electrolysis care than this. This alls sounds pitifully negligent.
IMHO, 30 minutes on the upper lip is too long for most people. The only time I do that long is if the lip has a dental block, or is male with heavy growth. Even my female clients with heavy growth rarely do 30 minutes.
The reaction you had is also too much. I hope you will check with others in your area. A client might experience an immediate sting, and some redness for a few hours, sometimes some tiny scabs, but not the extreme reaction you describe.
Going longer for an upper lip is possible with certain brands of newer electrolysis epilators. There is a caution attached to this statement: the problem is, many electrologists have epilators that can’t stack up to what a few of the newer brands can do. In that case, skin reactions are harsh if more than 15 minutes is done on an area like the upper lip. Until the electrolysis profession as a whole catches up to the possibility of what can be done, stick to the safe side and do 15 minutes only. The vast majority of my clients get 15-30 minute treatments and do very, very well. I have gone longer with some and they do well, but they have swelling, no scabs, for 24-48 hours. The end result is still beautiful.
Barbara, I’m happy for your Jayhawks. Go Kansas! I was in Detroit last weekend and saw them play two games. Must admit that I was kind of rooting for the underdog, Davidson, last Sunday, but have now switched back to Kansas, since they have advanced.
THANKS A BUNCH DEE AND BARBARA AND ANY OTHERS WHO RESPONDED. I typically have sensitive skin to begin with and always have a puffy reaction to electroysis but never like I did with this new person. It seemed like she did more work on the right side of the upper lip and this was the side that swelled up for days. At least I know what I might look like with collagen injections. Ha Ha. Anyway, the original electrologist that I went to for 5+ years treated my upper lip, eyebrows, and feet and toes. Whenever she started with my feet she always switched intensities and needles for the upper lip. I only experienced minor scabbing on a few occasions on the feet areas but never again like I did with the upper lip. My first lady used an Apilus machine and I’m not sure about the second lady. I will find out this week when I call to talk with her about my reaction. Thank you for this website forum and to all the people who volunteer their time. I found out alot of valuble information when I had my reaction on this website. More info than any electrologist told me. One last question if anyone can answer. My upper lip area is healing ok but I’m concerened about the long term look. There are some holes in the skin like an orange peel. Will these holes close up or are they permanently going to look that way? Is there anything that I can apply besides the witch hazel, tea tree oil or aloe vera for this condition? The second electrologist used EMU oil. What do you think about that? Thanks again for everybodys time and response to my situation.
