Electrolysis on Upper Lip

Hi there,

I’m considering electrolysis on my upper lip and plan to get it done within the next few weeks. I’m quite tired of shaving in the mornings and still looking like I haven’t shaved. Also, my moustache area has grown substantially and I think it looks messy - in general, I just don’t like the look of stubble on me.

What I need to know is if I were to get electrolysis how long might the irritation/redness etc last for? and how visible is it? I need approximately 80 hairs or less removed, so in general how many sessions might this require initially?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

It really depends on what kind of hair you have, how it is distributed, how sensitive your skin is, what equipment your electrologist is using, and of course, the skill of your practitioner.

In most cases, if you think you have 80 hairs, you really have 300, and most practitioners will only work a very limited time on the upper lip. If you can get full clearance the first time, you may see some hair the next week (this hair was in the follicle, but below the skin’s surface when you were treated) but if not, it will be at least 3 weeks before you have hair that you can see with the naked eye in that same area.

Depending on all those things in the first paragraph, you could have only redness that fades in 30 minutes, or you could have a swollen lip that lasts a few days. One can only give you the range of possibilities without seeing you, and without knowing your practitioner.
