Electrolysis on the hairline... HELP!!!

hello all. I am a 25 year old female and I just recently got my hairline done by electrolysis and am tottaly freaking out! The electrologist removed too much hair and now my hairline looks odd and misshapen. I had two treatments done, the second one just to even the sides out so that it wouldn’t look so odd. It’s been 7 weeks now and hardly any hair has grown back. It has had such a big impact on my self esteam that I am considering getting hair plugs if it doesn’t go back to normal in the next couple of months. Does anyone know how long it takes for the hair to grow back if I’ve only had 1-2 treatments on the hairline? I also have hyper and hypopigmentation and am wondering how long that takes to go away. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process in order to get my hairline back to nomal? Any information or advice would be appreciated and welcome.
Thank you!

If you had it done with flash thermolysis, chances are it’ll grow back but slowly. Give it a few months and wear bangs in the interim. You only had a couple of treatments and you have a gazillion more follicles that weren’t treated that are just dormant right now.

If you had blend or galvanic on the hairline… give it a chance but the kill rate is a more sure thing with those modes in that area. When you say “the sides” do you mean the sides of your forehead or the side of your head by the ears?

yes the sides of my forhead. I don’t know which type it was. All I know is that she used a needle and it was very painful. It was definitely one of the newer machines. Is there anyway of telling which typw without asking?

If it was thermolysis, (likely if it was a newer machine), I would tell you to take heart.

With galvanic or blend, the lye created by the chemical reaction tends to spread to surrounding follicles and it “sits” there and kills long after the probe has come out. With thermolysis, and with only a couple of sessions, I think you will be fine. For one thing, most electrologists doing thermolysis aren’t as accurate as, say, James. For another, thermolysis only affects the follicle in went into. You have more follicles than you can count, even in one square inch. Even if she did actually “kill” those hairs, it takes a whole lot more than a couple of sessions to wipe out an entire area of hair. I doubt she killed them all, because some of them were likely in a resting phase anyway, and hair doesn’t die in the resting phase. There are also hair follicles surrounding the ones she got that didn’t have any hair growing in them at the time (the hair had fallen out naturally & cyclically before she got to them), which will grow later more than likely.

It takes a few months or more sometimes to see hair return on your head, but I am almost positive you will not be able to tell by the end of next year.

Wear a trendy hairdo with bangs for a few months. My hairline is naturally uneven, and I wear bangs… and no one’s the wiser.

And you will probably need to ask – just act like you’re curious. If she used galvanic or blend, that still isn’t a death sentence! Give it some time! If you held anything wet, that will tell you that you either had blend or galvanic electrolysis. If you didn’t hold anything at all or didn’t have to touch anything damp, then you had thermolysis.

I agree with CoffeGal’s points. Hi CoffeeGal! Welcome back!

You know what I’m thinking? When all settles down (and we have high hopes that it will) you may want to tackle this again in a different, less risky way. You might want to go to an aesthetician and have her shape your hairline by tweezing. Take a look and if you like it, then as the hair grows in, start electrolysis again and make sure your electrologist understands to stay within the defined boundries.

Seven weeks is probably not enough time to declare that those treated hairs are gone for good. Some may pop back or new ones may be ready to make their grand entrance very soon.

Thank you! I don’t know where I’ve been all this time. I guess life just happened.

I didn’t think of the aesthetician idea. That’s a good one. And draw a line on your head with chalk, Beepsix, if that helps keep the electrologist out of the “No Trespassing” zone!

It’ll turn out okay.

Yes welcome back CoffeeGal! So does blend kill more hairs than just the treated ones if the lye spreads to surrounding follicles and keeps killing? That would be an added bonus for sure…

Well, that’s the story. With galvanic or blend, the reaction with the moisture in your skin makes what is essentially lye. Unless you cataphorese after your treatment, then the lye remains active for some time and spreads to other follicles to some degree.

I’ve never done this, but have considered blend for that reason. I guess that hurts worse, I dunno.
