I am wondering how electrolysis would work to get rid of 6 single hairs that keep coming back after being plucked. would you just have to be lucky that they are in the growing stage when getting the electrolysis? How long would it likely be before the hairs don’t come back?
When a person SEES 6 hairs at any given time, then it is very likely that they have many more hairs in various stages of the life cycle. Stop tweezing for a month or more and then count how many hairs you see. Even in that time, you will have had some hairs shed (and some grow in). Repeated tweezing strengthens the hair over time causing those hairs to become larger in diameter.
Electrolysis works the same way on your “6” hairs as it works on all the other hairs. Treat the hair follicles growing hair today and treat the other hair follicles as their hair grows in.
There are charts out there with the percentage of hairs growing and life cycle length for certain areas of the body. These charts might help you understand the reason it doesn’t take just one or two treatments.
Yes! Ditto what “our wonderful Kansas Lady” said. I’m often amused when a patients says: “I only have two hairs and I pluck them out almost every day!” I know all the electrologists now have a smile on their faces.
Of course, when a patient comes in and you treat the “two hairs” then she stops tweezing. Within a few weeks she now has 20 hairs! At that point she thinks that “electrolysis is making more hairs.” (That’s when I jump out the window! I’ve been “out the window” on more than several occasions.)
This is exactly why the initial electrolysis consultation is very important. We must first be teachers (and that can take a lot of breathe). Second, we must continue to teach and reinforce hair growth concepts to our clients as they journey through the process. One consult won’t do it. I get many new clients that are veterans of electrolysis and I am surprised that many have never heard half of what we teach here on hairtell. It is simply pitiful.
This must be why I don’t have any windows in my office…
I understand what you are saying, but I am 90% sure that I only have 6 single hairs, once I pluck them they take a few months to return, but when I leave them for a few months they are definatly the only hairs that grow in this area. So would electrolysis be very effective for only 6 hairs? Not sure if it would be a waste of time, as I wouldn’t be certain when they are in the growing stage. Would an electrologist find it a waste of time to only treat 6 hairs?
Supressing my thoughts on the number and considering the aspect of wasting time: at least i and possibly some other electrologists have a minimal rate per session which covers the block of fixed effort necessarry for every appointment. Therefore treating only few hairs would not be any waste of time. If it were really only those 6 hairs or little more, then the price broken down on each hair would be pretty high, but Yes, the method as such would be very efficient.
Actually i usually need a few hairs to figure out the parameters for treatment. So the probability of an undertreatment in a single session might become significant, especially of those few hairs are differ not only in their growth stage but also in size (which is not uncommon for plucked hair).
I wonder if in such a situation good old progressive blend or slow thermolysis might be the best approach…
Electrolysis would be effective on 6 hairs or 600 hairs.
If you are asking if one zap on each hair will kill if for good, this is not certain even if it is in the anagen phase. Especially since you pluck them regularly and I’m sure they are quite strong.
I would definitely go for it though, if they are bothersome for you. You can wait until all “6” appear and then have them cleared all at once. Then if and when they come back, have them treated again straight away. You might only be going for 1 or 2 hairs at a time. Perhaps book 5 min apps and have some other hairs treated too?
When I started electrolysis, I booked 15min sessions and had work on my sideburns and some coarse chin hairs (I felt I had between 5 and 10). I can’t say how often she had to treat the chin (maybe 1 or 2 hairs every few weeks?) but after a few months they had stopped coming up.
An electrologist would not consider a small area a waste of time. She/he might charge more because most have a minimum fee once you lay on the table. It could be $20 - $30 ???
Electrolysis is an excellent option for your desired goal.
Indeed. And usually we find enough hair to fill this time reasonably, don’t we? At least i tend to clear stuff which might become annoying when the main job is done and there ist still time left over (and this will be effectively free of charge…).
Oh for sure, beate! We always spot hairs that the client can’t see yet or that may be on their way to become bad boys and girls someday.
