I have been thinking of getting electrolysis in the upper arms as I am covered with dark, long hair that go up even to the shoulders which doesn’t look attractive at all and this is why I wear long-sleeved shirts all the time !
Anyways I’ve heard that electrolysis can induce hair particularly in the upper arm part of the body, is that true ?
How long it will take to at least lessen the thickness of the hair their ?
I live in Birmingham, UK … If anyone can help me to find a good and certified electrologist in my area I would really appreciate it. I have been searching in the internet but all I can get is spa and beauty salons which doesn’t seem right for a guy to go in their and ask for treatment does it ? urrgh !
Electrolysis DOES NOT INDUCE hair to grow, but Laser or IPL devices possibly can. We have a long pattern of posters that report this side effect with light-based systems. You may not hear about this at some? many? laser clinics, but there are plenty of testimonials here as well as on the cosmetic enhancements forum.
How long it takes depends on a dozen variables related to the skill of your electrologist and your behavior with putting in time to get the hair cleared asap and then keeping the area cleared, until there is no hair left to clear.
Electrologists practice in various settings, so look around. The setting should be the least of your priorities. Skill is number one priority. Men seek out electrolysis services, too, and it is not unusual to see men in spa’s and beauty salons. When I get my haircut, it is not unusual to be sitting next to a man getting his hair cut and the same goes for electrolysis. You can call around and see if someone is doing electrolysis in their home office or in another private location, but don’t let that sway you totally.
Maybe some of our special friends from the UK can chime in to help you find a good electrologist in your area.
If I were working on your arms, I would choose to do a modern flash thermolysis because it is a speedy and deadly modality when used PROPERLY with special techniques. If you can’t find anyone that fits this bill, relax, because any modality will work. Concept #1: People want the hair off as fast as humanly possible. This can be accomplished with the right set up and I will testify to this under oath, so help me God.
another thing I forgot to mention, my forearm hair is quite noticeable so if the electrologist managed to clear my upper arms would i have a weired line at my elbow?
She should know how to make it blend so there is not a stark difference between the two. Skill matters no matter what the epilator. Certification is good, but does not always mean the electrologist is more skilled than the one that doesn’t have a lot of initials behind her name.
If she uses blend and shortwave(diathermy) all the better for her to have those modalities in her toolbox.
Give her a chance. Get a consultation and a short treatment and see what you think?
What about the model she uses I mean would the model she uses will give the results I want ?
Is it possible to have a noticeable reduction in those areas in a matter of 3 months ? Say I have the time and money to keep getting the treatments what schedule should be set up to get what I want in three months?
I don’t know. What I do know is, we electrologists all have different skills, strategies and equipment for removing hair permanently. Most of us succeed if you show up and put some time in up front.
Given that the electrologist is skilled and puts enough energy punch into each individual follicle she/he treats and you invest in the time needed to clear an area asap, those two things help to get you on a good path to the end. Be patient, be cause it takes 9- 12?,14?, 17?, 21?, 24?, months to get finished with serious effort from both parties.
you’ve been so diplomatic with your answers dfahay lol ,but thanks for your replies.
I will try to call her this weekend and hopefully start the treatment asap.
well 9, 12 months are quite too long to notice a reduction ! I thought like having an hour every week (like starting with my right upper arm and the next week switch to the left arm and so on ) but with 9 months this will cost me a fortune
Hair removal is expensive, unless you find a wunderkind like Josefa who can clear a whole chest along with some upkeep for US $3000.
If you just have small areas like the upper arm, it’s not too bad. Use an electric razor to shave the area you want to treat, and then the electrolysis can be performed on only the hairs which are growing (best chance to kill and most comfortable). Plus you get clear arms while you are doing it.
it doesn’t work quite like that. not sure if you have read the electrolysis faqs?
you can ‘notice’ a permanent reduction well before that, depending on the amount of hair you have. but if you want to kill ALL the bothersome hair in ALL the hair cycles, it can take longer.
first off, you need to establish how long first clearance of the hairs you want gone will take. so, go and have your right arm cleared, then your left, then wait a few weeks and the next lot of hair will start coming through… same again. as the weeks and months progress, you will need a lot less time for the electrologist to clear the visible hair and less frequent sessions too.
so if you’re talking about 1hr long sessions initially, it should wind down to 15mins after a few months.
for a noticeable reduction, you need hairs follicles permanently disabled in each hair cycle. given that 3 months in only about 1 cycle, it will take longer.
Well, I do have hair on my chest but they are soft and light so am comfortable with it
stoppit&tidyup:
I quite understand the process now thanks a lot for clarifying. but will I have clear upper arms after the first session like bryce said or is it gonna be patchy ?
Let’s say you clear all the hairs during the first session, the area will be clear and then the next lot of hair will start coming through gradually. I expect it will be pretty even when it starts to come back.
If you can’t clear all the hair during one session, your electrologist can work evenly over the area to do as much as he/she can. And then keep going back regularly until the whole lot is gone for the first time.
Dude, they are arms. Just shave the parts you don’t like, make that part of your daily grooming, and have the electrolysis practitioner pick up what he or she sees growing as time allows. It doesn’t need to be patchy or expensive over time. Electrolysis works, just start and enjoy the process.
As long as a home based office is safe, private and clean, that is fine. Many electrologists work long hours and being home based is less stressful. Also, it allows for more flexibility to schedule appointments on the spur or at hours before or beyond 9-5. Just size it up. If it is not an ideal situation for you, look onward.
My previous electrologist worked out of her home part of the time, and in a very small business office otherwise. Her home setup was as clean and professional as her office, and there was never any problem.
