Hi, i had laser hair removal on my face 6 years ago. In some areas i got good results ( between eyebrows) but most of the hair is back, although its a bit finer. Last week I went to a salon to have electrolysis on my chin, and they didnt recommend it, saying my hair isnt too thick, i will have scars, and they were trying to convince me to do laser again or IPL instead. I am totally confused now. I would like to have permanent results, and i already know , that on my face laser wont do that. I am a white Caucasian female , 40, with quite pale skin, and dark hair. My plan was to start on the chin and later do the upper lip too. I would appreciate any advice. Thank You.
Electrolysis all the way. It is much, MUCH safer for your finer hair It wont leave scars, and if it does leave temporary scabbing etc, you can use products like tea tree, aloe and rose hip oil which help healing and comfort.
Electrolysis will give permanent results for the hairs which are treated, although it will take sessions over a long period of time (say a year) so treat all active follicles which are producing hairs.
Goodluck!
Also if your salon has electrolysis but steers people to IPL then they may not be the right people to go with. Find someone who specialises in electrolysis who supports your choice.
Thank You Emilily. I wont go back there,i wouldn’t feel safe to have it done there and i lost my confidence in them anyway.
Electrolysis is defo the best for you!
I’ve had my face treated… Personally I went down the clear and wait route. If you can grow the hair out (you can trim or shave if you have to) then go to a reputable electrologist (preferably from on here as you are pretty much guaranteed results) then you could get a full clearance of the area, then wait, clear again etc.
this method worked well for me as I’m in London and would travel up to Mairi Hawkes in Scotland every 10-12 weeks to get clear. It may seem a bit excessive to travel that far for electrolysis but you need to find someone who is good, uses good lighting and magnification and for me it was a big thing to find someone with a apilus (my 1st clearance took over 4 hours, I couldn’t have sat through that pain with traditional blend but all types of electrolysis do work, it’s practitioner thats most important !)
I also like the fact that I was getting a few months inbetween clearances, which gave the skin more time to recover. It also allows for more hair to grow through which can be a positive thing for treatment as you know what’s left but negative as in you may have to put up being not clear in the area for a few weeks prior to your next appointment!!!
You can also just clear the hairs as they come through but you will probably be going much more frequently, I guess it depends on what suits your personal circumstances.
When factoring in the price of electrolysis in London and the reviews or lack of well known electrologists it made financial sense to travel and get the electrolysis done in a day every few months for me personally and knowing that you would be getting results rather than taking a chance was a no brainer.
Good luck!!!
