Electrolysis on Black skin

Hi everyone, I’m new on this forum but have read a lot of the different topics hoping to find answers to my questions. As english in not my mother tongue, please excuse me for the mistakes I might do.

I’m living in France where there are very few electrologists to begin with. Therefore finding someone who is competent is even more difficult. I’ve recently had my first electrolysis session on the side on my bikini line and the upper part of the tigh (1 month ago) with a 2 hour-session. 1 month later I have a lot of PIH and some ingrowns that are leaving me with discolorations. I’ve found little information regarding the evolution of electrolysis-induced PIH on black skin so I’m coming to seek your opinion (based on your experience).

-Does the PIH on my skin feels in the “normal range” for you? (for my skin type).
-Most of the hair that was treated grew back (it seems thinner but I might have to wait for them to grow more before making a conclusion). If I were to continue with the same settings, would my skin suffer (more pronounced dark spots)?
-As I don’t think there was any overtreatment (feels more like undertreatment to me), can I hope for the dark spots to eventually disapear?

I’ve been obsessing over my bikini line getting wider (because of waxing, I do not have any hormonal disorder) and now I’m obsessing over dark spots :tired:… life is hard

Thank you in advance for your answers!

I beg you, please dont look for competent electrologists in your country, there are none. As you are undoubtedly aware it is only medical doctors allowed to do electrolysis in france, and frankly the few that bother are horrible at it.
Adrien Sanchez an electrologist on this forum works from Malaga Spain and may be one of your closest competent personnel. I believe he’s working with Josepha Reina at her clinic, though not posative of that. He is from France, and he can give you a ton of informationon the state of electrology in france ( TD:LR: It’s awful)

As a side not, I had a look at your pictures, and while it will heal, the treatment wasnt great. Lots of broken hairs that could turn into ingrowns and pustules. Hyperpigmentation is a concern for your more tan complexion as is the possibility of keloid scarring if you are prone to it.

Thank you very much for you reply Seana. Well, I kinda suspected that she was doing a very poor job and I think I just didn’t want to accept it. I guess I’ll have to travel to have electrolysis done on myself or get a laser treatment (which I hoped I would never have to do…). In any case I’ll let myself heal and try to get in touch with Adrien Sanchez. Do you know any other electrologist in Europe that would accept a client coming from another country and that you would recommand to me?

If you choose laser, make sure the laser specialist uses a YAG laser on your skin. You will need to follow up with electrolysis anyway, so you may just want to start with electrolysis.

Adrien would be great, but if he is too busy, there are many skilled professional electrologists in the UK that would treat you. If you want, I can ask who would be able and experienced to remove your hair.

Hyperpigmentation is temporary. It can takes months to resolve after the hair is removed. Do not be fearful. Icing immediately after treatment or applying cold aloe vera gel to the area can be helpful to calm the skin cells (melanocytes) down. Keep your appointments about every 6 weeks to catch the new hairs, which are straighter in the follicle, that way they are easier to disable.

I sent you a private message. Actually I work in a clinic in Madrid, Spain.

Situation of electrolysis if France is dreadful. I hope law will change one day, in order to give better access to the treatment to French consumers.

As for other electrologists, I can recommend several in the UK ( searchable on the BIAE site) , Beate Rizert in Germany, and one in scotland ( cherry tree Electrolysis ) as well.I’m afraid however that is about the limit of my european electrologist knowledge other than Josepha who may not be accessible to you.

Thank you all for your answers! I’ve been very busy lately and couldn’t really find the time to do anything else than WORK.
I would gladly accept your recommendations on good European electrologists and might visit Spain (vacation + electrolysis = great deal!!). I just want to get rid of that hair and as LHR is the very last thing I want to try, I guess I’ll have to travel…

My dearest Seana, after a year of (almost) voluntary retirement, I have returned to work with the same dedication as in my first years. Although I still have the inconvenience of a waiting list of several months, I am still as accessible as any of our colleagues. Mairi Hawkes, Geri Panayotova and June Howard are other names to consider.

For Ines, your photos show a considerable amount of ingrown hairs that are irritating the skin and aggravating hyperpigmentation. Make sure all of them are extracted before or during the process. Otherwise your skin will continue to show black spots indefinitely.

And please, do not use temporary depilatories that remove the hair from the root, such as wax, thread, rotating machines, etc.

You retired!!! What…NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I can’t tell you how glad I am you’re back.

Thank you very much. I have missed my lovely clients and of course, my favourite English teacher

Josefa and I are moving to Uruguay, but don’t tell anybody it’s a secret.
