im a male who had had IPL (sciton) on back, upper arms, and shoulders ( all 8 treatments) and chest (3 treatments). Back has responded pretty well in reduction but upper arms and shoulders not as well (yes its not surprising). I am going to try gentlelase laser on these areas. Im type 2-3 skin, thick dense dark hair all round. Now heres my dilema. Im pretty much clean skinned chest, back, shoulders and upper arms as i shave it to keep it that way. But my arm from where a short sleeve ends to my hand is still pretty hairy so i guess its looks funny having hairy arms but the rest hairless. I just want to get a reduction in this area. Not keen on laser as dont want to go thru a total hair loss process. I just want a reduction in the density of the hair slowly over a period of time. Can electrolysis do this ie just zap hairs on the arm to reduce the density of hair without going thru a total hair loss process? Im assuming u can but just need someone to confirm. I know laser leaves you ‘sunburned’ after the process but does electrolysis leave any such visible impact after the procedure.?? Do i need to shave down for the process like for laser. Im hoping not. What would be the best type of electrolysis for this ? How long would it typically take for say a 60 to 70% reduction ?
An electrolysis practitioner would not need you to shave the area, especially if one were looking only for reduction. After treatment, the area will be a little red and/or bumpy for a while. It may be hours, it may be days.
If one wants as much as a 60 to 70% reduction, the better way to work towards it would be to go for as close to full clearances, as the work will go faster than trying to remove every tenth hair. One will experience a visual reduction of about 20% for every clearance.
If you do full clearances on an area you just want to thin, is it for sure that you won’t end up bald on that area ever after treatments stop? How many clearances should you do? I have several areas that I just want to thin, but I want them to end up looking natural, just less hairy.
Electrolysis clearances will look natural, as long as you don’t do something like clear out the entire face to the jawline, and do no work from the jawline down. In that case, who has 30% MORE hair starting on the neck? It would look weird.
Each clearance would reduce the hair by about 20%, so if you wanted to do a controlled reduction, you would do anywhere from one single clearance, to two clearances spread 6 months apart, or three clearances spread four months apart.
Keep in mind, by the time you get to six full clearances equally spaced in the year, you are in the zone that may likely yield full visual clearance of hair that is noticeable when a conversational distance from another person.
If the areas you want cleared is adjoined to another hairy body part, the practitioner needs only fade the hair removal into that untreated hairy part, so that it looks like a natural increase in hair pattern, not a hard line. (unless that part is something like your chest, in which case most people like to get a particular shape done)
If you read this Christine O’Connell, ive sent you an private message via Hairtell as i am located in Sydney and am looking for someone with your experience in electrolysis.
