Sorry, I’ve asked this before, but was advised that more detail was needed. I’ve been having electrolysis done for 25 years, about every 4-6 weeks.I’m 55, Dutch/German descent. Brunette with fair skin. Hypothyroid. I’ve seen two different electrologists, the main one was always careful that the hair (chin) came out easily, and she cleared all the black ones each time. It did seem to slow the growth a bit, but that’s all. I’ve always been careful to not pluck or clip in between sessions, except now during covid. Honestly, I am so tired of this, but don’t know what else to do. If anyone can help I’d really appreciate it!
Were your electrologists clearing away all of the visible hair with each treatment?
Delicia, you need to see a medical professional specifically, an endocrinologist .
Please know, that I am not a medical professional. I believe Dee Fahey is also still a licenced RN but most of us as electrologists are not. We do however become very familiar with the endocrine system as it pertains to hair removal…
Disorders of the thyroid ( hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism ) are amoung the toughest issues to resolve. They can lead to issues such as cushings disease, which result in hirsuitism. There’s also growing evidence to thyroid disorders affecting PCOS .an diabetic disorders. This i because the thyroid 's job is to balance the endocine system, and if you affect that balance in the wrong way, it can have far-ranging effects , including affecting metabolism, lucidity, hair growth, even organ shutdown. It’s a very delicate balance that doctors are EXTREMELY hesitant to screw with in any way., if for no other reason than they dont recieve enough training on it in medical school. .
One of the results of a n improperly balanced thyroid is escalated androgen levels in the bloodsteam .which results in hirsuitism.
Imagine you are trying to empty a swimming pool with a teacup. Now imagine there’s an asshole on the other side of the pool, refilling it with a garden hose. Well your “hair” is the water in that pool and your electrologist, she’s you with the teaacup. What is happening is she isnt able to effect ENOUGH of the hair to overcome the asshole with the garden hose. So , how do we kill the asshole ( or at least get him to turn off the garden hose? Though medical intervention. We need to stop follicles that have never generated a har before from being stimulated into doing so. The asshole with the garden hose, well he’s the hypothyroidism. And its a serious medical issue that needs to be thoroughly addressed. because yes, the result is that hair removal becomes "perpetual is such cases…
You mentioned you hd seen an electrologist who was most concerned with the way the hair came out of the follicle. I put it to you, hat this is the MOST important aspect. The hairs she is killing will stay dead. I’d stick with them honestly, because they are what is going to drive this home to completion. But address the medical issue, because that can and does extend treatment.
Disclosure: i’ve had a spouse die from complications of hypo/hyper thyroid disorder.
Seana
She was clearing all the black hair, but not the light ones.
When you say “she” are you saying that all of your electrologists were clearing away all of the dark hair every 4-6 weeks for the last 25 years?
From her descrition, the electrologists were treating anagen hair only. This is a common problem, but will slow removal.
Yes. I have one main one, but had to fill in with someone else for sbout a year.
