Electrolysis Machines

Hello everyone,

I’ve been an avid reader on this website and appreciate all the valuable information you all contribute on a daily basis! I’ve finally taken the initiative to get rid of these pesky little hairs! I’ve been calling the handful of electrologists in the city I live in asking questions trying to get as much information over the phone as I do not have the time to have consultations with each person. Two that I have called mention that they use Electro Blend as well as Astro sp?. I have never heard of these brands. Anyone have any input on whether these machines are modern and a decent machine to work with? Thanks.

Beauty4ever;
Electro Blend has made several different epilators. More than likely, the electrologist is using the blend modality. Looks to me like the most recent is 70’s or 80-'s technology.
The only thing I can find on Astro is a rotary epilator - shaver.
At first I thought maybe you misunderstood Astro when she may have said Dectro, but if I were to tell someone what equipment I have, I mention the Dectro first, and in my case the Ultrablend is my backup machine. The way she said it, I would take her main machine to be an old Blend machine, with a backup being a rotary shaver.
In that case, I hope I am wrong. Maybe others can inform me.

Thanks for the reply!

It appears that people are still using old machines around here. So far I have come across Electro, Astro, Hangle?, Clareblend and Proteus? The last woman I called said she used Clareblend and Proteus sp.? She also said that she’s able to use all three methods with those machines and that because I’ve never had electrolysis it doesn’t matter. What does this suggest, trial and error is my best bet?

I would prefer someone who is skilled at using a modern machine but I suppose I won’t object to someone who is skilled at using an older one. Evidently I don’t have much of a choice. One of my main concerns is scarring and pitting. All of the women I have talked to have 12-26 years experience. Still need to contact a few others. I am on a mission to finding a great electrologist!

It is often the case that the best one can do is to get a consultation and sample treatment from everyone in one’s area, and then one knows who does the best work, regardless of what equipment they are using.

I don’t want people to get the impression that is it impossible to do good work with even a spark gap Kree machine, we only want people to know that the shortest learning curve is with a newer computerized machine, and that a good practitioner who took the time to understand the machine can make computerized machines do things older units can’t hope to do.

If the best work comes from a blind jedi electrolysis master get that work done there. Our problem has always been getting enough people to send in their reviews of the places around them so that one can come here and have a good place to start their search.

I hope you can help us out.

Keep Us Informed.

Again, thanks for the reply!

I was able to contact 4 women today and I’ll hopefully speak to one more tomorrow. And I think that about sums up the electrologists in my area.

The first woman I spoke to wouldn’t stop talking long enough to allow me to speak. Started ranting and raving about information that I didn’t ask for but seemed nice and friendly. Now that I think about it, she sounded desperate for business. She will be my last option.

The other two were friendly and somewhat informative.

The woman I have chosen to get my first treatment by uses Clareblend and Proteus and is most expensive at 58/hr which is actually reasonable IMO as the other three charged 50 and 55/hr.
For reasons unknown, Ive selected the most expensive lady. Maybe I assume her potential quality of work is worth paying 8 or so more dollars for heh which might be completely ridiculous and prove to be false. We’ll see.

The two other women both use two machines as well. Blend128/Hinkel and Astro/Hinkel. After reading a few posts I’ve heard nothing but bad reviews of the Hinkel so Im somewhat skeptical but will give it a shot.

I will explore all options and get treatments done by each of them to see who gives the best results. I will also keep you updated.

Oh and I might want to mention areas Im getting treated. Nipples, chest bone and a small patch right under my belly button. If all goes well…Im sure I can find other areas of annoyance.

Would love to rid myself of the stash that I wax regularly but refuse to let anyone near my precious face. ha! I don’t have excessive hair but it still bothers me especially the nipple hair…disgusting!! Im so thrilled that I’ve finally embarked on this journey! Whooo hoo!

My original plan was to get laser done on my underarms, bikini and legs. I knew nothing about electrolysis. Thank goodness for this site and all of you.

I will start laser after my electo. As summer is nearing an end Im not quite ready to give up my golden california tan that I’ve worked so diligently at as I don’t tan easily. :)-

I will call tomorrow to schedule my first appt. Until next time!

Thumbs up to you and your plan, Beauty. The areas you are wanting to tackle with electrolysis are easily accomplishable. Stay true to a schedule. Laser for underarms and bikini line sound excellent, too. Any feedback is very helpful to those in your locale who are seeking the same thing. Thanks for participating.

I don’t see you mentioning what type of electrolysis each one will be using on you (thermolysis, blend, galvanic). This is important as well, especially in terms of speed. Once you find out, it would be helpful if you post the choice of methods you have as well.

The woman I plan to see 1st uses all three methods. Once I get treatments, I’ll let you know.

The last woman I called (#5) said she converted half of her garage into an office. For some reason, that sent me running. But she works Saturdays which would be ideal for my schedule. Ugh.

Not only is she using Ice Age equipment but she also works out of her garage. Hopefully she has AC?! I know the machine is only as good as the skill of the electrologist but it just doesn’t seem professional to me.

Excuse me If I sound snotty and judgmental but one should expect nothing but the best in any service they are paying for.

I will have to find someone else that will work Saturdays for the next couple of weeks. I’ll update my treatments…when they start…

Although I do believe that practitioners should make it their business to update equipment and education on an ongoing basis, one should not be all that turned off by someone working out of their garage. It means she can offer you lower prices than if she were paying for a $1,000 a month office, in addition to extra utility service fees (I just got a bill that said I owed $50 for $6 of actual service due to fees and taxes)

Judge her by her work, and how well she set up the garage.

I am back! I have not started treatment yet. I am still tanning. :open_mouth:

Anyway, I was at my yearly gyno appt. and came across a Cutera Coolglide Laser Hair Removal brochure.

I haven’t researched it yet but it says it will work with tanned skin!

I would stick to electrolysis if I were you. Of course, I am not you. Let us know how it all turns out.
