Electrolysis in Glasgow?

I’m having difficulty finding a good clinic here. From what I’ve read, an electrologist is not REQUIRED to have any sort of license here. I know no one personally who has done it, nor are there many reviews available (I think we may be more embarrassed about private stuff in Britain?).
There is an ‘british association of electrolysis’ but I’m trying to find information on if it is worth a damn. Only one place called ‘about face’ in Glasgow has members of it, I think it is a requirement. Again there are no reviews of the electrolysis side of ‘about face’, so there is no way I can be sure it is good. I can not travel outside of glasgow- No one in the family can drive and long bus rides can be expensive.

Sorry if any of this has been asked before, but I’m finding this all very difficult to digest. I’m 18 and I want my face done (upper lip, just under chin) but I have very little money to spend. I really HAVE to find a good place first try. My mental health is a wreck thanks to this and a few other issues. I live as a hermit at the moment

Can people advise me on what I should be looking for? Also on the questions on the association and the clinic if possible.

All help is really appreciated.

About Face has a very good reputation. Mairi at Argyll Electrolysis is well known on this forum and would be another Scottish possibility.

its a £10 ticket from glasgow to oban, and Mairi Hawkes lives there. She’s going to yell at me for saying this, but the woman is amazing. AH-MAH-ZING. if you can do it, get to her.

Another piece of advice, if you’ve got a little amount of hair and a little amount of money i would think hard about this. its a time and personal and financial commitment. don’t do it half electrolysis half plucking maybe waxing. it’ll be slow and frustrating and you’ll become obsessive. you need to commit to it in order to get good results.
Best advice though, READ. everything you need to know is on here, but when you start it will take you hours. HOURS.

Another vote for Mairi… I was fortunate enough to be able to fly up to her from London several times - it’s hard at 1st, I find the aftermath of a long clearance hard (we are talking 4 plus hours on the face) but it will get better and Mairi is very good at what she does - may sound like an exaggeration but the work she has done has changed my life, I don’t need to worry or hide the hair I had before, and my skin generally looks amazing now. Sorry to ramble on, you are very lucky to be relatively close to such a good electrologist… Even in a major city like London we have nothing to compare (In my opinion!)

Thanks to everyone who replied. Mairi at Argyll Electrolysis will be an excellent back up option should the about face clinic not be right for me. Unfortunately I need someone to accompany me (aforementioned mental health issues) and adding £20 (or £40 if not a return) is an option I would rather avoid. I would do it if there were no decent options in Glasgow at all, but I hope this is not the case.

I’m very aware it will take time and money. I have looked into this a fair amount, but finding reviews on this has been pretty hard! I wonder why people do not review electrolysis or laser much here?

I can attest to that.

Thanks again for the replies! It’s brilliant to have professionals answers in a world of misinformation. My mate was told electrolysis wasn’t permanent and laser was! I think I may switch to Mairi after I get back into a job and have a little more to spend, but for now I am still wondering what others have heard about the ‘about face’ clinic in Glasgow. It truly is the only option at the moment.

Does anyone know if Mairi does marathon sessions for larger areas? I think I may go to her to tackle my stomach/back. Damn, I hate PCOS.

I can attest to that. [/quote]

Thanks Josefa,

My arms are looking pretty good too thanks to you! Another clearance next year and I think they will be finished… The results for 2 clearances are pretty dramatic (in a good way!)

Do not belittle anyone, I still think that traveling to Oban is the smart choice.

Excuse me? I wasn’t belittling anyone in the slightest.

I have taken in the advice people have given me, but my personal circumstances prevent me from going to Oban the moment. I am young, a full time student and I have severe mental health issues. I would go if I could, but I can not at the present time.

Do not get me wrong. I meant that I do not intend to “belittle” anyone in Glasgow or elsewhere. In any case, we do not know if Mairi can accept more work.

Whatever your choice, I wish you good luck!

Hi Josefa,

Could you please check your messages. Been trying to reach you for a while.

Take care,

Ah, sorry about that. I got the wrong end of what you were saying.

I imagine if I were ever to go to Mairi, I would have to book/contact her WELL in advance based on the amount of people who swear by her.

Again, thanks for all the answers.
