Hello there! I’m new to this forum and I must say that it’s been very informative as of yet! Although I’ve been through previous posts, I would like to have some clarifications regarding using electrolysis for vellus hair. I’ve got dark fine vellus hair on my chest (breasts and in between), whole stomach area and my whole back. I tend to bleach them or wax them (apparently I shouldn’t wax ?!?!), but I’m looking to permanently remove them. I’ve been lurking around the forums and it seems Microflash or Picoflash would be appropriate to treat these hairs. Am I correct? Laser hair removal would not work at all? I’ve included some pictures.
Cremeglacee: My hair is the exact same!! I have olive skin tone however, but the hair is so dark you can see it!
I feel your pain, but electrolysis should work on those areas. It will take a long time! Find someone who knows what they are doing!
Best of luck!
Could anyone provide an amount of hours to clear this area, as I do have the same amount of hair instead of posting another set of pictures, it would great to get an idea of how many hours I’m looking at.
Ugh!! It is very annoying:( It’s comforting to know though that we’re not alone! I think it would take a lot of time as well, but I cannot wait to get rid of it. I too would like to have an estimate of the amount of hours it would take. Thank you for replying MarieEleanora and good luck to you as well:)
Other than saying “It would take a long time”, no one can really answer your question.
The formula for answering your question goes something like this:
How many total hairs in the target area? How many hairs can the practitioner doing the work remove in an hour, working on YOU, and in the area targeted? How much time will it take to get to first clearance? How much time will you devote to treatment in the first 6 weeks? How frequent will your visits be, and how much time will you devote to work, on each visit?
Do you see why we can’t answer your question? Just too many variables.
All we can say is, "If you could manage to get to first clearance in 6 to 12 weeks, and reclear the areas targeted at least once every 6 to 12 weeks, you could be done in 18 months or less, and you would enjoy an substantial amount of hair free time in between clearances.
Where are you located Cremeglacee? we may be able to help you to find someone to get this work done.
How many clearances could cremeglacee expect to need, to clear this area permanently? I do appreciate it’s a tricky question but it does seem to be the case that some electrologists can get clients to finish in around 3 clearances where others take somewhat longer…
To help take the guess work out of it:
cremeglacee can come in on consecutive days to achieve first clearance
She never misses an appointment ( she’s never late )
She follows all instructions and recommendations
for fun:
She insists on tipping heavily (I don’t agree with tipping your electrologist by the way)
She brings a selection of cream cakes every time she visits.
She has promised an all expenses world cruise to her electrologist upon completion of treatment (no more hair)
Any electrolysis will work. If you can find someone who uses an Apilus and therefore has the modalities, you mentioned then great. But it’s still better to go to a skilled electrologist with basic equipment than one with the high tech equipment who cannot use it properly.
When treating this kind of hair, you would be going forever if you just do an hour every week or so - even in one area. This only really works if the client only wants to remove the ‘big hairs’ and is then satisfied that the job is done. If you want it all gone, it’s a different story.
What you really need to do is book some serious time and get one area entirely cleared. It can be over a period of a week or two but it is going to be a serious time commitment. You will need to find first a decent electrologist and then secondly someone that is willing to do that much work. It would be best if the electrologist is confident treating telogen hairs. If they want you wax or shave beforehand so that they can only treat the anagen hairs; (1) you will need a lot less time on the table to clear the initial hair but (2) you will have to put in more time later on down the line.
If you’re clearing everything that is there at present (not just anagen), you can wait 3 months and then have your second clearance. In total, maybe it will be 3 or 4 or 5, no one can say for sure (depends on how effective the electrologist’s work is). But with the right electrologist it can be done.

James W. Walker: I see your point! I’m located in Montreal
Follizap: I guess I’ll have to learn to perfect my baking skills then:P
Stoppit&tidyup: yes, I saw that thread. Thanks! I haven’t touched these areas except for bleaching in over 7 months which would mean that most of the hairs are in the telogen phase?:S
Thank you all for answering!! Greatly appreciate it:)!
