electrolysis for underarms?

I am so glad I committed to electrolysis! I’m on my 6th? or 7th? session for the upper lip and chin and because things are going so well I plan to start sessions for underarms.

Post-treatment on my upper lip, I use Witch Hazel, antibiotic cream and sunscreen.

What post-treatment is needed for underarms? It’s humid and hot here in New York City during summer and I always use anti-antiperspirant and deodorant.

Should I still use Witch Hazel and antibiotic cream after underarm electrolysis? What types of deodorant are OK?

Glad you are happy with your facial electrolysis and you are moving onto your underarms . You will love being smooth.

Before and after a session, I just use 70% alcohol on the underarms . I ask my clients to just use soap and water thereafter. I am okay with deodorant or anti-perspirant after a couple days , but do not use prior to treatment as it clogs up the pores and makes the area too dry. That’s what works for me, but talk to your electrologist. She may have other ideas that works for her.

Thank you for the tip about not using deodorant prior to an underarm session. I notice that many extra-strength anti-antiperspirant and deodorants have a residue that is difficult to wash off. I will look natural deodorants that wash off very easily (like Tom’s of Maine, Weleda or Earth Science) for use once my skin calms down. I am really prone to ingrown hairs in my underarms and want to heal properly!

You are very welcome.

I think James mentioned a natural mixture he uses, with Milk of Magnesia and something else. You can do the search here on Hairtell. Since , I have no underarm hair, I rarely use deodorant. If I am watching Lebron James play basketball, I will grab a little to put on, but that is about it for me. It is great not having underarm hair.

I googled Milk of Magnesia + deodorant and was surprised to see it used as a natural alternative to using traditional anti-antiperspirant and deodorants.

I tried using it straight out of the bottle for the past 2 days and let me tell you…it seems to work! No residue, no irritation, no odors and it’s easy to wash off. I put a dollop in my hand about the size of a silver dollar and pat it under each underarm after a shower, then I let it air dry. It doesn’t look chalky and does not rub off on my clothes.

Hallelujah! I am going to try this for a week and report back about the use of Milk of Magnesia post-treatment. I used a generic brand that I found in the medicine cabinet.

My personal formula is to let the Milk of Magnesia sit overnight in the bottle I bought it in, then, in the morning, I pour off the clear liquid (it is a weak bleach solution) and pour the concentrated white stuff into a recycled roll on bottle, add a teaspoon of baking soda, and 5 to 10 drops of tea tree oil, cap it up, and shake it up.

I read that if you put it on before bed, on dry skin, you will not need to reapply in the morning time. Since I don’t have that luxury, I apply it after a shower, and use the blow dryer to dry the skin, both before and after application of the mixture.

One can add one’s own scent, (a favorite cologne or perfume) but since that is one of the things I don’t want in my underarm mixture, I don’t use it, unless it is a natural essential oil.

one of my kids loves to let the stuff dry out to the point of being like a cream, and applying it like a lotion instead.

Excellent Information, King James the 7th!

I think I had better register and copyright that nick name. >;-)
Then I can send cease and desist to anyone using the term in print in any way, other than as a term of endearment.

Update: I had another electrolysis session for my underarms and I have have no irritation when using Milk of Magnesia as deodorant. I had a session during the afternoon, and used M.o.M the next morning after taking a shower, and everything looked great.

I can’t wait until my underarms are fully clear! Electrolysis is so addictive.

The M.o.M washes off easily without any left-over residue, and now the skin underneath my arm is in better condition. It was looking “greyish” due to the residue build-up, but now it looks like the color of the rest of my skin.

The underarms (and groin) are areas of high bacterial colonization, so electrolysis aftercare might need more attention than other body areas.

Today’s new client said that she had problems with infected bumps after shaving - so I recommended hibiclens once per day after electrolysis. Her skin appeared to react normally, but we talked about options to avoid irritation such as “no exertion” and “apply ice”… She did say that her deodorant choice of BAN roll-on did seem to be soothing after shaving. I will check on her in a day or two… I will remember the MoM recommendation, as well!

When I was using stick deodorant, I had to use a creamy oil based cleanser, or use Ponds to get the residue off! I think the ingredients in deodorant are meant never to rub off, making it hard to clean from your skin.

I find that stick deodorants that are clinical or extra strength ones really difficult to remove. I’m going to stay away from those unless I really need it. I feel like I need something under my arms because it is hot and humid in New York so I might try BAN because I need to have something at the gym.

I get ingrowns on my bikini but can’t start on electrolysis until after summer since I am going to the beach a lot. One of my former estheticans told me that using a sharp, single blade razor, disinfected with alcohol on my bikini line would prevent ingrowns when shaving. Doing that, plus using PFB afterwards seem to help.

She said that the BAN roll-on certainly soothed her underarms after shaving.

Hi waxnomore,

I recently started electrolysis on my face and will be moving to underarms as well!
Being from NY as well, would you mind sharing who your electrologist is?

Hi I’m new here
