ok so the best solution is to go in for a clearance by going about 3 times a week for an hour in my situation with electrologists. Dfahey why is it that some pro’s can do a clearance in one session, I would like to know if you may tell me.
Why did I feel plucking with thermo treatments but not blend is the skill of that practitioner off ?
With the older style equipment that most electrologists use, the results would be disastrous for the skin. Also it is unlikely that anyone could endure such a long session, as it is much more painful. Regarding the tweezing sensation, yes it is a skill issue.
I’m now working with a lovely young woman (“Melody” from French Canada), who uses the Apilus. We are both working on the same patient “Joe.” I’m using manual blend and she is doing her technique. The patient finds no difference in the “feeling,” the skin looks exactly the same afterward (size of crusts), and actually I’m removing more hairs per hour. Just saying …
I wish we could all get off the “my method is better than your ‘old’ method” thing. Well, I don’t expect it to happen. It’s opinion, and just like all “body parts” we all have them. Still, it would be nice to see an objective study (with photo-documentation) and not just anecdotal evidence.
I will say that she was TERRIFIED at the thought of any “blend method,” because she was taught in school that it’s “disastrous for the skin” and too painful to tolerate. Yeah, the schools are doing a GREAT job!
“With the older style equipment that most electrologists use, the results would be disastrous for the skin. Also it is unlikely that anyone could endure such a long session, as it is much more painful.”*
I suppose what I’m responding to is the unfairness of the above statement. Such a broad and sweeping statement is (at this time) only made by Apilus-users. However, many thousands of people read Hairtell and what you have literally said is that “any equipment other than ‘Apilus’ is DISASTROUS for the skin.” You also said that MOST electrologists use “old” equipment and therefore will devastate your skin (meaning anything other than Apilus). Oh yeah, and too painful too.
Not only is this very detrimental to the entire electrology industry, i.e., “most elecrologists” … but it’s also not a true statement. What the average reader “understands” is that anything other than Apilus would be a “disaster.” Again, not true at all.
I like Apilus, I’m using one, I’m having fun with it, and I like the company and hope to be doing a new project with them. All of us seriously need to get away from the type of “hype” that causes confusion and difficulty on the part of the consumer.
I know you believe your above statement with your whole heart (and some of your observations), but I could easily prove you wrong. A belief is just that … a belief. Do we really want to start arguing about “method” … AGAIN (as in the last 40 years of my career!)?
*Yes, I know the reference was about clearing a beard. Indeed, I can do this, and sometimes I do, but my own preference is not to do this. Most importantly, the final TTT will be about the same regardless of the approach.
Apilus users need to get off their “high horse” and start thinking about the entire industry. Will this happen? Probably not!
Well Michael, you are hardly the average electrologist!! I would love to know how many of the pros here used to do extensive clearances,in a single sitting, prior to using the apilus?
Actually if I learned anything from this forum and from the electrologists I met this week is that machine DOES NOT MATTER, and that skill does matter. My proof is today meeting an electrologist who I consulted with and liked her skill so much even though it was a bit more painful from what I am used to I begged that if she had time to work on my skin for a bit longer. I did not feel a single hair being plucked and she didnt use an Apilus. As a matter of fact, I did not recognize what it was, and it looked old. But she sold me on her skill, I was impressed, I said to her and to myself that this is different!!!
She is far from me but I am going to commit to her, because I love her skill.
I just have the feeling that this is what electrolysis truly is.
I don’t think there are/were? many doing full clearances, Christine, but you never know!
Prior to owning an Apilus Platinum, I was using the Silhouette Tone VMC. It was a dream of an epilator and still is. I did extensive clearances on facial and body areas. Sensation was great and for years, I only used Ballet gold probes. I was on my high horse with the Sil-tone and still own this epilator, respecting everything about it to this day. At the same time, I remember James the seventh was on his high horse using the Apilus SX-500 to clear beards and such. Now, I have switched horses and I’m still riding happy doing full clearances on the hairy distressed with an Apilus Platinum. My clients tell me they are very happy with the results. Adding Laurier IBP probes to the mix has made me even more deleriously happy. Why should we not talk about such happiness and success? Does anyone think we are lying? Why should this not be shared in the spirit of giving?
You know what I would like to hear about? i would like to hear more from other electrologists, participating and sharing their happiness and success with their epilators. Maybe their clients could join in like Josefa’s clients do, complete with pictures and tell us how great everything is going. All stories are welcomed and encouraged. I would love to hear specifics about their experiences with the tools and strategies they use.
I can’t possibly use every epilator on the market to truly know about what other brands offer, so I stick to what I know best, which is the Apilus Platinum. Instead of bitching about what Apilus practitioners and clients of those practitioners have to say, let’s widen the circle here a bit and include information about those being cleared or worked on for hours at a time (for practitioners that do over an hour), with Instatron, Clareblend, Hinkel products, etc. All comments are welcome here and always have been, so don’t be shy. If you all want the world to know your good news, join in.
ok now I am confused, pardon me if I sound misinformed or stupid. Should I be looking for someone that uses the Apilus or does it not matter? I just had a treatment where I really like the electrologist’s skill, but her machine looked old, is this going to delay my time? She told me her Goal was to finish me in 6 months.
You should look for someone who is able to do the job properly regardless of the machine. I believe what Christine O’ Connell was implying was that with some older machines, it is too harsh on the skin to be able to do a full clearance. Older machines are just as effective at killing hair… it’s just a different treatment strategy.
No, you should not base your decision solely on the epilator used. If you are happy with your practitioner, look no further. If you ever become unhappy for some reason, do what we have advised many times here on this forum, get some more consults and treatments from other practitioners who use other brand epilators. If you want to include an Apilus Plat., go ahead. We don’t all drive the same cars and thus, we don’t all use the same epilators.
Six months to completion? I doubt it, but let us know if you are finished by then.
I like it when clients bleach the hair (upper lip) between treatments. They don’t do this right before a treatment and the dark roots of the growing hair makes them very obvious and easy to treat.
