Electrolysis experiences...Need advice!

I am a female in my early 20s, and I have been getting electrolysis for my “happy trail” and around my nipples. (I think I have hormonal issues!) I used to tweeze these hairs, then I switched to shaving because I was getting a lot of ingrown hairs. The hairs are now pretty dark and thick.

Anyway, the first electrologist I went to had a very professional website and credentials, but when I got to the location it was in her home. That isn’t a problem for me, but she was also very unprofessional in other ways. Her equipment looked very out-dated. I only went to her twice, because I realized that even though she was using an anesthetic, I could still feel her plucking the hairs out with her tweezers after she had used the needle. The electrolysis was not working properly.

I have now been going to another place in a very nice office center. The problem is… even though the place is run by a CME, she keeps having another person do my electrolysis. The CME has only done it twice, and I’ve gone there four times. Also, the CME seems to give me better results. The assistant or whatever she is is very nice and I don’t want to have to ask for the CME, but if I am paying the same rate isn’t that what I should get?

Also, the hairs are growing in lighter on my stomach, but around my nipples they are growing in almost the same. And they are in the exact same spot so I know that they are the same hairs! There’s few enough hairs that I can count them and know where they are. Is this normal? Should I still expect to see results? The only time it seemed to work at all was when the CME turned up the current and it hurt more than usual. I don’t mind the pain-- I want results.

Any advice? Should I try yet another electrologist?

  • You should be most concerned with the type of electrolysis used, electrologist skill and experience, and proper aftercare. The letters after their name are not as important as the above. Do you know the name of the machine being used? Are they using thermolysis or blend type of electrolysis? Do you feel the hairs sliding out without much resistance after being zapped?

  • How long have you been going in for treatments? How often do you go?

  • You should have no qualms about asking for a specific electrologist when you’re making an appt if you prefer one over another.

  • Hair grows in cycles. You’re not seeng the same hair even if it looks like it’s in the same spots. You have a lot more hair than you can see at any one time. As you remove one, the next one comes in and can be pretty much almost in the same spot. It’s hard to tell with a naked eye. What you need to look out for is that the hair is coming out completely after being zapped and is not breaking off half way. That’s the only way you would see the same hair resurface.

  • It takes about 12 months to finish treatments if you’re going on schedule. This means going as often as possible in the beginning to get to your clearance first, and then coming in as soon as you see new hair pop up because you want to kill it while it’s still new and weak.

  • It’s likely that you don’t have any hormonal issues. Happy trail and nipple area hairs are pretty normal for women. Some just have lighter hairs than others, and some are more coarse than others.
