Hey I’m a 19 year old male with dark course hair on my chest and stomach, so I’m looking for a way to get rid of it. I’ve been researching different ways to get rid of it, laser is a waste of money IMO because it’s a reduction and not a solution. I think electrolysis DIY would be best in my case because I dont that much excess income but I am very patient. I was wondering if should purchase a One Touch and attempt to modify it with the radioshack accessories or should I just keep it as is and attempt to do it with a One Touch or should I save up for a Professional electrolysis machine on ebay and spend $500-800. If I did purchase a professional machine on the Legitimate Machines on ebay thread which one would be best for a beginner? I catch on pretty fast and I’m aware that people go to school for years to become licensed electrologists but I am curious if any of these machines are easy to work with as a beginner. Thanks
Actually, many men have good results using laser for the chest and stomach areas if they are a good candidate coupled with a good laser, coupled with a good technician. You are right, you need money, something you don’t have in quantity right now.
If I were you, I would go straight for an older Clareblend professional epilator rather than a One Touch or even a modified One Touch. The Ultra Clareblend would be very easy to understand and I’m thinking you can get a used one for around $600-$800, or maybe a little less either on E-bay or through Texas electrolysis. There are other professional epilators that would work well, too. Just come back and ask.
This work may be difficult for you to do, but give it a try with a positive approach. Get some books and read about insertions and the differnet modalities. You would probably want to start with galvanic only and work up to thermolysis as you become more confident.

You would be best off getting the best, most advanced electrolysis machine you can afford. If you can’t do the Apilus or Silhouet-Tone brands, a Fischer CBX would be great.
Those are usually in the higher ranges, however, and so, in the 500 to 800 range, you would do well to get an Instantron, Hinkel, or Clarablend.
It would also be best if you got a friend to help you with this, and trade work, as the best work is not done on yourself, but on someone else. We have a reading list, and lots of other info here, so read up.
Considering I do not know what modalities means it sounds like I do have some reading to do…
It’s very tempting to buy that 35$ One touch after reading all these reviews out there saying it did wonders for them but I’m going to hold off on that and research before putting my money out there.
Also Are these advanced new machines out there designed a little friendlier towards large surface areas than the cheaper older models and the onetouch?

Modalities refers to the means at which hair folicules are killed. Galvanic works by using a DC current to convert moisture into lye, so it works by Chemical Distruction. Thermolysis (slow) works by generating heat in excess of 127 deg F. This temperature causes coagulation. Next is the fastest modality being Flash. It uses a higher RF current and generates heat in excess of 212 deg F. This causes desication of moisture from all cells in the immediate vacinity of the probe. You may have heard of blend as well. Blend is a mixture of Galvanic and Thermolysis, with just enough heat to make the lye better able to get into small spaces. The RF level for blend is very low, and it works on the same principle as Galvanic, only does not take as long.
The one touch is strictly galvanic, and unless your hair folicles are rather large, the probe is not going to fit. It is a size 10. I generally use a size 3 to 5 in my electrolysis practice. There is a link in the Do it yourself section that discribes how to build your own galvanic epilator similar to the one touch but that can use professional probes and is much more reliable. You might want to consider that route as well. I am working on a homebrew 27mhz flash epilator but I am still very much in the design stage yet on it. Taking a CB radio and converting it to a professional epilator. If you can afford to purchase a couple of electrolysis books, it would serve you well, especially if you are considering performing electrolysis on yourself and also with a buddy.
For large surface areas, galvanic is extremely slow. Taking about a minute or so per hair. Blend is faster being 6-8 seconds per hair. Slow thermolysis is again faster with being tenths of a second, and Flash is in hundredths or thousandths of a second. As time decreases however, skill becomes just that much more important. Galvanic is very forgiving, and Flash requires great skill in probe depth placement.
