Electrolysis diary in Phoenix, Arizona

Dear “Live.”

May I say that you are the “dream client!” Please, can I have more clients like you? No, please can I have ONE client like you? You probably haven’t a clue as to how truly rare you are.

The skin looks like it’s healing really well! Love the pictures

I had my 5th session today, for a total of 6.25 hours. I’m really beginning to see the difference. Pretty soon, my chin will be completely cleared. I can’t wait! I just updated my blog and posted new pics.

Thanks, Emilily

Thank you, Michael. That’s about the nicest compliment I believe I’ve ever received.

Was just reading your S5/D1 post - the thinning rather than clearance is a big thing for reducing irritation. I don’t get irritation on my chin/upper lip as it’s done over the entire areas rather than clearing, but this month I’m going weekly for half hour appointments and am really looking forward to the results!

Before this on my face, I’ve been going every week and a half for 15 minutes, so it’ll be a good jump!

Awesome! How did it go? Thinning definitely helps keep irritation to a minimum. It’s a good strategy.

I just posted my latest updates with pics. Check it out

I’ve now had 9.25 hours of electrolysis on my chin area. It’s about 95% cleared. I’m so pleased with my progress, I wish I had started this YEARS ago. If you are considering it, I would encourage you to find out if it’s right for you and if it is, don’t hesitate! Find a good electrologyst and get started!

What is your game plan now?

Upper lip

I’m so happy the awkward re-growth periods before going in for a session are behind me (for the most part, anyway).

Awesome! Getting through the regrowth periods is a huge hurdle
It’s so great that you’ve found what sounds like a really good electrologist in Phoenix as well… Be sure to recommend them if anyone else is looking for someone in the area!

Following your progress has me excited for what will hopefully happen for me too!

OCTOBER 26, 2013
8 SESSIONS AND 10 HOURS

I found an interesting article I wanted to share about red-heads and pain tolerance:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/9166995/Redheads-feel-more-pain-than-people-with-dark-hair.html.

Evidently, redheads are less tolerant to certain types of pain and cold lol. I wonder how they can measure the level of pain one experiences. I mean, how do they determine that the pain a red head experiences is more or less than anyone else?

After my session last week, I noticed a couple bruises. That’s the first time that’s happened. No biggie. Just documenting it as possible side effects. The discomfort level continues to baffle me. Some weeks it makes me cringe involuntarily, other weeks (like today) it’s there, but I can almost ignore it. I used a different numbing agent this week. It was a prescription strength lidocaine. Up until today, I had been using Dr. Numb with contains 5% lidocaine, 5% prilocaine and 3% benzocaine. Seems like Dr. Numb would be more effective, but my experience seems to vary each week regardless of the numbing cream, so I’m not really convinced it makes that big of a difference either way.

When researching electrolysis, I kept reading that while it’s effective on all hair/skin types, red hair can be more stubborn or harder to treat because of the way it grows in. Every week, Stephanie kept commenting about how easy my hair slips out of the follicles. “They’re like buttah today”, she would say. I figured she was referring to the fact I’m more hydrated these days (I make sure I drink extra water in the days leading up to my sessions). Today she explained sometimes you have to fight with red hairs because they grown in at different angles so it can be more tedious to treat. Evidently, mine don’t. This is also one of the reasons it seems to be responding so well.

The stubble may be almost gone, but I noticed what appears to be new growth this week. I’m fortunate in that my facial hair tends to be very fine and almost transparent, so this new growth will probably be gone before it becomes stubble, still, it bothers me because it’s more new growth than I would like to see on my face. I’m a freakin’ WOMAN for heaven’s sake, I shouldn’t be this hairy!!! It’s like the follicles on my face are on steroids and the ones on my head are impotent. I don’t understand this aberration or how to make it stop! Someone suggested I should have the hair I’m having removed from my chin transplanted to my head. If that were a viable procedure, I would SO be down for it!

When I was younger, I remember watching a documentary about a boy who had been raised as a girl because something went terribly wrong when he was circumcised as a baby and the doctor convinced his parents the best course of action would be a sex change operation. I also remember watching a documentary about people who are born with both sex organs and the parents are forced to decide if the child should be a boy or a girl. I used to wonder if something like that could have happened to me. If it did, they never told me about it, but my gut tells me that didn’t happen. I’m just a hairy heifer for no apparent reason :-/

Anyway! My session this week was only 45 minutes. She got quite a bit done (mostly on the front part of my chin), but it’s not as noticeable in the pictures. That’s due, in part, to my new phone. I switched to Verizon a couple weeks ago, and bought a new phone. Evidently the camera on this new phone is not as good as the camera on my previous phone. Call me old fashioned but when shopping for cell phones, I’m generally more interested in PHONE performance (as opposed to all the other fancy things they do). I mean, first and foremost, it IS a phone, right? I really didn’t worry that much about the quality of the camera. I figured in these technologically advanced days, whatever camera was on the phone would work just fine. I was wrong. The camera on this new phone doesn’t seem to pick up as much detail…perhaps I just need to play with the settings some more? Oh well, I was finally able to get some decent shots and you can also see the new growth in a couple of them. You can check out my pics on my blog…

Absolutely! I love my electrologist! I go to Stephanie Shields at Senza Pelo Med Spa http://www.arizonaelectrolysis.com/welcome.html

Aaawww, thank you and good luck!

Following your progress! Very happy for you!!

Have you had your thyroid checked by chance? The reason I asked is because of the comment about your hair being very fine on your head and the other symptoms.

Thank you

I’ve had lots of things checked. Traditional doctors always tell me everything is “normal”, which makes me angry and I look at them, point to my facial hair and male pattern baldness and ask them: “does THIS look NORMAL to you???” lol

I saw a naturopath about a month ago and she ran all kinds of tests which found all kinds of imbalances – one of them being my thyroid is under-active. We also found food allergies, my hormone levels are all out of whack and I have a cyst on one of my ovaries which could be causing PCOS symptoms. This all sounds bad, but when I found out I was thinking: “FINALLY! Some answers!!!”

So, we’re working on getting everything back in balance and I’m exploring all kinds of lifestyle changes…no more meat (except fish, occasionally), no dairy. I will begin juicing this week…lots of changes!

This is prolly way more than you wanted to know…the short and easy answer would have been “yes” lol. There are so many things that can go wrong with the human body, it’s a miracle any of us is walking around looking/acting halfway normal, isn’t it?
