Electrolysis and upper lip shadow

Hello everyone (: I am new here and i’m glad i found this blog. I have developed an upper lip shadow and i thought it was melasma but i think it’s due to my daily plucking of my upper lip hair. I am 26 F with fair skin and I am mexican so im prone to more facial hair than the usual. i used to use a cream to remove my hair but for those thick dark ones i began plucking. I tried electrolysis yesterday the practitioner told me she used the lowest setting on thermolysis and i was honestly so scared… still am for the results. however i did not have enough hair length for her to proceed with the entire lip and she just got what she could. I am curious to know everyone’s thoughts. I’ll post pictures of what my lip looks like before i started to pluck, after my shadow came in, and 1 day after electrolysis. If anyone has advice on how to minimize my hyperpigmentation i would appreciate it. I have tranexamic acid pills and I am debating on taking them through the process.

the pictures range from top to bottom!

  • 1 day after electrolysis
  • 1 day before electrolysis
  • Several months to a year of plucking
  • When i first began digging in my skin trying to remove hairs.

i know the picture have diff lighting but hopefully it paints a picture

A simple problem with a simple solution. You accurately identified that the discolouration is hyperpigmentation, which can be caused by trauma to the skin, including plucking and electrolysis. The solution here is to continue electrolysis to remove the need to pluck any hair. Once you’re permanently free of hair, the hyperpigmentation always resolves on its own over time. No need for any expensive treatment or creams.

thanks for the feedback. Do u know if little scabs are normal? i think i see some😭

Yes, very little scabs are normal. Don’t rub them off with any physical or chemical exfoliants. They’ll fall off on their own in about a week. I don’t see anything in your post-electrolysis photo that is concerning.

thank you!
