electrolysis and moderate vellus hair

Hello, i’m a moroccan girl suffering from a few wonderful side effects of pcos, mostly acne and excess facial and body hair.Although i’ve had the acne part controlled with the use of birth control(diane35) the excess hair hasnt changed one bit.I’ve found two centers that do electrolysis in a city that is thankfully an hour away by train which is very rare to find in a country like mine and luckily they do not charge much per session no matter how much time it would take (within the range of 35 american dollars for the whole face as an example). i’ve done some research and found that one of them is the best and has electrologists with a canadian license as i believe, they are formed to work with apilus machines as the name of the place is Apilus Center.they even have videos of youtube if it might be of help i can put the links later. Now i have decided to treat the areas i feel mostly insecure about , begining with sides of face and then my chest and tummy. My question is about if they will be able to treat my chest and tummy area as i have never touched them and consists mostly of noticable vellus hair , i’m very scared that they might make it worst somehow and that would really destroy me emotionally.i would also like to know how long it would take to clear the areas that i will put a picture of below. Please help me, as a girl from a developping country i dont have many options and i dont think laser woud be right for me as my hair appears blonde in some lightings.

Your hair can be treated successfully. Remember, this all depends on practitioner skill. Im glad to hear that there is an Apilus Center in Morocco.

How long it takes depends on whether they do thermolysis or blend, your tolerance to the sensation, if you want all hairs removed or just the larger ones. I personally would use thermolysis, picoflash or microflash. Do what the practitioner feels is best. Treating your chest and tummy is no problem. It wont make it worst!

The big thing is that vision wear needs to be very good in order to see these hairs. Give it a go. Laser is not for you.

I suppose you may reference at this Apilus center :

In this video we can perfectly see how the Dectro electrologist remove the hair. Some specialist of this forum could comment.

That’s NOT electrolysis, but TWEEZING.

thank you everyone for your replies! Josefa do you really think its not performed correctly? that would make me very sad to be honest as i dont think the other center is any better. The center in the video does a free patch test do you think it would be a good idea to go try? considering i’m doing the sideburns first should i do the patch test in that area or in another area? and what would be the dealbreakers and signs that it is not performed correctly? in the video the girl said that it did not hurt at all although it might be for the sake of advertising.
Thanks everyone again for the feedback!

thank you Dee it really reassures me that it wouldnt get any worse!

Looks like a nice center. That is an Apilus Platinum - not the Pure. They don’t make the Platinum anymore, but it was a fine epilator.

I will say that the technician did a nice vertical stretch on the upper lip, with one finger. Much better for insertions over horizontal stretches. However, I did see resistance ( skin tenting) when the hair was lifted out on some insertions and I thought the insertions were too deep for those vellus hairs. I would have zapped three to five hairs at a time to speed this up a bit. The camera was shakey and her fingers hid several insertions, so some hairs may have slid out.

You should not feel like you are being tweezed. Go get a treatment and tell the technician if you feel any tweezing so she can correct.

The skin looked great after the treatment. No chunks of skin missing!

Do you think it would be better to do the patch test in the area i want to be treated which is cheeks or test on another area ?

The area that I would choose for a test is the area above the navel. This would give you a clear view of the results, although if my opinion is worth, when the hairs are being treated as in the video, the results are null. Undertreatment of hairs, resulting plucking could turn your hair into thicker hairs, hyperpigmentation, and probably ingrown hairs.

Honestly, I would not touch the hair because they are barely visible, and there is nothing unaesthetic in appearance. Your skin is beautiful and unless hairs develop on another level, I would leave things as they are.

I guess i could give the chest and belly area a second thought but the hair on my face has grown a bit thicker ever since i started threading it, its not overly thick but it is very noticable compared to other areas. Its not growing thicker thankfully due to birth control keping things at bay but my mother isnt too keen on the idea of her daughter taking it, conservative country problems… so i assume at one point i would have to stop taking it and my hormones will cause additional hairs to grow.I trust your opinion very much as im a big fan of your work , i wish there were clones of you in every country for people who need work done hahah. So my best bet unfortunatly would be to try both centers and see if any of them do a good job.

Maybe your mother is more concerned about your health than for conservative reasons?. The pill has a lot of side effects, sometimes quite serious.

Before, you asked me what would be the signs or clues indicating a poor treatment. In the case of the video, the client was probably noticing the extraction of each undertreated hair.
Sentences like: “It does not hurt at all,” especially in an area where the sensitivity is so extreme that you can feel the flutter of a mosquito from several centimeters away, sounds at least unrealistic. Probably the customer did not feel the (insufficient) current, but I assure you she was feeling the “indelicate” plucking.

I would like to show you one thing.
The young woman in the photo is 21 years old. Like you, she is from Morocco and has been diagnosed with PCOS. Right now she is making her university studies in Malaga.
Before coming to me, she has had more than a dozen of laser sessions on her face. Although hair became slightly thinner, she was not seeing any progress in the last 6 o 7 laser sessions. So she decided to give a chance to electrolysis.

BEFORE:

If you enlarged the pictures, you will see hundreds of short hairs between the longer ones.

Before starting with electrolysis sessions, we had to deal with acne, in order to prevent further outbreak, and consequent scarring.
Extractions of blackheads and comedones left the skin ready to carry out electrolysis treatments. Later, when the follicles are disabled by electrolysis, the chances of new outbreaks of acne are much lower.

This is a video where you can see how were her treatments:

I do not intend to lecture anyone how it should be an electrolysis session, but the most basic thing you learn when you start in this profession, is that the hair should NEVER be forced out.

Thank you very much for your advice Josefa, i think the best solution might be to go for the free consultation and patch test and see if they dont do a proper job according to the advice of all the hairtell contributors.
If thats the case then i will wait until i can offord going to a renown electrologist as im still a college student myself , maybe saving the money that could go into potentially useless treatments here , for a more guarenteed result in europe for example would be safer and less frustrating.

You are very welcome. Unfortunately, travel to Europe does not mean you’re going to have more luck, nor is it to travel to any continent or country around the world. The individual (not the country, machine, or school responsible for training) is what you should focus on.

If my plans work out, I’ll be out of business within a very short time, but I’ll let people properly prepared to take over. Adrien Sanchiz is one of these people. Do not forget that name if you do not find the right professional in your country.

The above “before” pictures were taken in early July 2015. The treatments were interrupted in August, due my vacation and her return home in Morocco for 6 weeks.
For Christmas 2015, facial hair (and acne) was under control. The “after” pictures were taken in early March 2016, three months after her last session. As you can see, there are no holes despite all the hairs slid without being forced. She still bleaching the fine hairs, while she saves money or wait for some time I have available.

No more shaving, no more rough skin. Only smooth skin and self esteem recovered.

After:

Thank you Josefa! i will keep that name in mind. Luckily Spain isnt that far away we are basically neighbors haha. Indeed the skin of the girl in the picture looks very nice i hope i can acheive the same results some day.

Oh Jossie … The first time I announced my retirement, I was 38-years-old. I just announced my retirement again (at 71-years-old). For me “Telogen” has lasted a very long time.

I fear that your 71 are like my 52.

We both have earned the right to stay a looooong time in telogen.
