Hi i was wondering what tips or solutions people have or use following an electrolysis treatment. I have been receiving treatment for around 6 months on and off for various areas mainly on my face.
i find the eyebrows are fine after treatment the redness and markings all disappear nearly entirely by the next day.
I am also having my upper cheeks treated which is fine hairs and that also subsides by the next day.
But i am also treating some thick tough hairs just below my cheek to the right of the moustache area and mid cheek region which i find look very messy so i want to get rid of them. After treatment there is often red bumps and darkening patches around the treated area which follows by a huge swelling by the next day. one time it looked like i’d been beaten up quite badly. i was wondering what i can do to prevent this, or after treatment help reduce these effects. it looks quite bad but i always think of the long term when the hairs would be gone.
And is this normal? due to the hairs being so much tougher then the rest.
What type of electrolysis is being used? Are those tougher hairs dense? What do you use now? Have you talked to your electrologist about it? Maybe this area is being overtreated, especially if the hairs are coarse.
The best thing is to keep the area dry and clean, to minimize makeup until it heals, and to jsut use witch hazel a few times a day. You can also ice the area to reduce swelling.
Also tea tree oil and aloe vera help (I mix tea tree oil with some aloe vera gel and it feels very refreshing). But test the tea tree oil on a patch of skin because some people get a reaction.
I dont know what type of electrolysis is being used :S the hairs are tough, and they are thick like stubble is that the same as dense? i use just aloe vera to soothe it. i talked to my electrologist she said okay she will try not do too much but the hairs are very thick and i will get a reaction from it. I have bad marks from it and i hope it is not permanent… it usually heals up nearly fully about 2-3 weeks later but it does look quite bad for a while and was wondering is this normal, is it unavoidable if i want this area treated with electrolysis? I will try this witch hazel which i have noticed mentioned a few times on here.
Dense means how close together they are. Treating all dense hair in an area can be too hard on skin.
When you say thick like stubble, I would read that to mean that those hairs are larger in diameter. Larger diameter hair means a larger diameter needle is needed.
It should not take 2 or 3 weeks to heal. It’s one thing to be red for a few hours and to even have a little noticable healing going on in the next few days, but 2 or 3 weeks is not good.
When the electrologist removes the hair, does it feel like the hairs are coming out easy? A huge swelling the next day would make me think that the hair was broken off and is doing a little zit thing, or that there was overtreatment for some follicles.
If you are pale as your moniker indicates, your skin might be a little more delicate and requires the most careful treatment.
the hairs are relatively close together and thick. and yes my skin is very sensitive my electrolysis said its not tough like normal mens skin and seems quite young and thin.
so shall i ask her to use a thicker needle next time? :S but surely she should know this and not want me to tell her this, im starting to think this isnt normal and i should see another electrolysis for this particular area? every other area seems to be fine though.
I feel the hairs seem to come out easy, sometimes she has to grab it a few times though. yea and i get like little zit things the next few days, which is quite ugly and look like i have some nasty spots… this looks quite odd only around those areas and since i have quite good skin with no spots then suddenly a patch like that its almost obvious something is going on. what do you mean by overtreatment for some follicles was a too high power used?
yea my skin is very delicate and reacts to the slightest of things even if i generally touch my face a it normally goes red temporarily.
It sounds like you’re being overtreated, i.e. there are too many hairs being treated at once in one area where hairs are close together. I would ask her to spread out the treatment a bit, thinning things out first instead of treating many hairs in one area. It shouldn’t take more than 5 days or so to heal.
I would also buy witch hazel. It should work better than aloe vera. Are you using the clear pure aloe vera gel?
ok i shall do that. i see her around every 3 weeks, so when i see her it has just about healed, should i wait a bit longer before the next treatment, in other words, should i have a period of 1 or 2 weeks of it being fully healed rather then treating it as soon as it got healed if you understand what i mean?
okay i’ll but witch hazel, i am currently using the clear pure aloe vera gel which is 99.9 aloe vera.
I run into the same thing, Paleboy. I have thick, dense hair in a lot of areas. Take a look at my pictures in my thread. My skin looks like $h!t, but I’m just hoping it will eventually recover. We men get the shaft here because you have to use a high setting to zap the thick stuff. The low energy settings for fine hair just don’t release the thick hair. I’m surprised no one has commented on my pictures or the quality of my skin. I tried to make good comparisons.
