I have been getting laser on upper body for the past year or so, however the hair on my upper arms and shoulders are very stubborn so ive decided to do electrolysis on these areas cos i need the hair to be gone and continue with laser on my chest and back as i’m happy with reduction in these areas. My question is that since i have been getting laser on these areas for a while, the hairs should be syncronized and most of them in the anagen stage, therefore im willing to invest alot time and money to get first full clearance on my arms and shoulders as quickly as i can (4 hours a week for a month should do it). Do you think this is a wise decision going aggresively at the beggining as alot of the hairs are in anagen, as this will hopefully kill the majority of the hairs that are in anagen and hopefully fully clear these areas in around a year with consistent treatments.
yes, it’s always wise to get the first clearance fast, so that you’re always getting hairs in the growth stage afterwards.
I worked only on men today, removing hair from the shoulders and upper arms and lower backs. It’s one of my favorite areas to do and it can go pretty fast, depending on how much hair one has.
A couple things I would strongly urge you to do Saf, if you decide to get electrolysis, is to find a practitioner that can do microflash thermolysis with a quality computerized epilator. If he or she wears good surgical loupes, all the better. Next, I would SHAVE the hair 3 days before treatment. When my guys do this, I can identify the growing hairs immediately. The non-growing hairs are just little stubs barely peaking out of the skin, so I ignore those hairs, since I won’t affect them much. I’ll catch up with them later.
I personally do not choose to use a foot switch to activate the current because it slows me down and I would fatigue too fast. These guys like long appointments (and so do I ). They want the hair off fast. It is more than possible to permanently remove hair fast if one has the proper equipment and skill to do this. I like to zap 20-30 hairs at a time, slide them out of the treated follicle, and then stake out my next group “for the kill”. Hair mostly grows in rows, so it is easy to focus on where you have been and where you are going.
Your ambitious schedule to get to first clearance really gets my alleluia. Punch it hard and fast and you will reap the benefits sooner than you think. Just make sure the hair is sliding out, not being tweezed. For these coarse man hairs, the probe choice is critical, too. I have had great treatments results with a size 6 gold probe. Treatment is more comfortable when the probe matches the thickness of the hair.
Laser can synchronize hair growth, but not 100%. That’s where shaving come in. I wish all my clients would shave for many, many reasons. I like the fact that you are doing both laser and maybe, electrolysis, for these areas. And, yes, it is always wise to maximize your chance for success by getting anangen hairs whether it be for laser or electrolysis.

For males with a few sparse hairs, electrolysis can be a good option, but those with light skin and dark hair are likely to find a course of laser (4-6 treatments from someone really experienced) can reduce total time to completion. Laser has been shown in such cases to result in one-third to two-thirds reduction in hair. After that, laser is diminishing returns, where it gets progressively harder to get further results. At that point, switching to electrolysis is needed to complete the job.
Prior to laser, many males were able to do their backs with electrolysis alone, and hair and skin color do not matter with electrolysis. As with laser, practitioner skill and experience is the key factor.
I did get laser treatments on my back and shoulders (8 in total) however i saw minimum results and im pretty sure more hair has grown. Whether this is just a result of hairs being and sync and showing up at the same time or actual induced growth, im not sure, however i like to believe the hairs are just in sync and are all showing up at the same time (Will this syncronization eventually go and less hairs visible? who knows, but im not waiting around to find out!!!)
This is why i think electrolysis on this area where the hairs are maybe 80% syncronised will be so effective. Thats why i had an extra laser treatment 4 weeks ago and as soon as the new hairs start coming out, i will get them with electrolysis whilst they are weak also.
People may say that i wasnt treated properly with the laser and the settings and technician wern’t right, and i would be better off trying laser with an experienced tech before electrolysis. This may be true but i believe i can get better results now with electrolysis by spending the same amount of money, even if it means a great deal of effort and commitment.
However it is just so hard to find experienced
electrologists here in london and especially those that do large body electrolysis. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know.
I just hope electrolysis works as i dnt know what i’ll do if this fails.
I also have another question which may be difficult to answer but il ask anyway. Whilst my mum was pregnant with me, she used to take dilantin (Anti-epileptic drug). After doing a bit of research, i found out that it can have an effect on the newborn. Now one of the side effects of dilantin is that the patient becomes hairier and this can be sorted by the patient changing to a different drug, however unfortunately for me this is not an option as it seems that its already in my bloodstream. Have any of the experts come across anyone like me and do you believe there is a treatment for this so at least i stop growing new hair as im doing treatments.
however unfortunately for me this is not an option as it seems that its already in my bloodstream.
It won’t be unless you are now taking it yourself. And if the drug did affect you then the hair growth would be a secondary side effect (ie you’d have something else noticable caused by the drug).
Sorry to hear you are having trouble finding someone in London. I’m guessing you’ve already tried electrolysis.co.uk and the yellow pages, so you could also try www.beautyguild.com www.babtac.com and www.embodyforyou.com

Saf, can you expand on the results on the other areas you were treating? I know you said you only saw a small difference on shoulders and upper arms, which are hardest to treat, but i’m also wondering about results on your other areas you didnt mention.
Thanks for your reply blink. How r u? I hope you’re doing well!!!
Yes, I’ve had say four sessions on my back, not quite sure how much reduction ive had in this area, but i think it might be more effective as we’ve started to up the power alot more than we did for the shoulders and upper arms. I’ve only had one session on my chest and abs so not quite ready to comment on that yet, however im optimistic that i can get a decent reduction in this area as its easier to treat than the back and shoulders. The reason i decided to electrolysis on upper arms and shoulders is that i want to be completely hair free in that and in order to do that i’ll need electrolysis in the end anyway so i thought id get ahead of the game and start early
hi saf…ur story is so much similar to mine:)…I started with laser on my back and shoulders and back and have had about 8 treatments or so, but with very little satisfaction. Im gettin my chest and abs done now( i had already paid for it)…Now im thinkin of gettin started with electrolysis on my shoulders and upper arms, and just liek you,i myself want these areas to be completely hair free. Do you have any idea approx how much time it woul dtake for complete hair removed from upper arms and shoulders? Thanks.
Ohh btw, im from michigan.
