Electrolysis after laser failing

Hello everyone,

For context: I am on the tan to brown skin color

I have been doing laser hair removal for my upper lip for 6 months now, and to be very honest i’m seeing the hair get thicker and darker. It grows back a day after shaving and looks way worse than before starting the treatment (looks like i have a 5 o’clock shadow daily). I don’t see any hair shedding after the treatments and i’ve made sure to follow the post care to the point.

The clinic i got to hasn’t been able to help me really, they can never answer my questions and try to blame me for the treatment not working (accusing me of shaving before the appointment when I have repeatedly told them that i haven’t shaved for a week for them to see the growth)

I’m thinking to stop the laser as it’s made it way worse and instead start electrolysis to help. I don’t have crazy expectations, I just wanna reduce the shadow because right now not even makeup can help with the shadow.

Any suggestions or tips will be very helpful, thank you in advance!

It seems that you’re not an ideal candidate for laser, which any reputable clinic should have told you. Laser on the face delivers inconsistent results, and clients with darker skin are unlikely to see much benefit from it. If the hair is not shedding in the two weeks following treatment, this is a strong indication that the treatment is delivering no results.

Beyond that, either you or the clinic must shave you prior to the treatment. If the hair is not shaved, the treatment won’t be successful. It’s strange that they would blame you for doing something which you actually should be doing.

I hope you can find a reputable electrologist who can deliver proven results so that you can start treatment soon. In my experience, facial hair shadow is either reduced or completely gone after around 9 months of regular treatments.

They would shave me on the day of but when i would come for a follow up they would excuse me of shaving before which contradicts it due to them shaving me legit the day of.

I’m going to further this, by saying that your skin type is susceptable to paradoxal hypertrichosis, or Paradoxal hair growth. This likely, is why you are seeing increased growth. The laser can stimulate finer hairs on darker or olive complexion skin, to grow deeper and courser.
No more laser for you ! Electrolysis is the only way with such skin types to destroy the hair permanently.

Thank you all for the replies, i’ll book an appointment with the clinic and hopefully it works this time!

Hi!

Just wanted to ask about something, so I have noticed that there are some hair follicles kind of under the skin that isn’t coming out from the laser. Roughly how long will it take for those hairs to poke through the skin in order for me to do electrolysis?

For reference my last session was September 7th, Im not sure if it grew out anytime before that since the last time i shaved was 6 days ago.

Any idea or advice on how long it would take for it to grow would be very helpful!

its likely burnt hair. It’s not going to grow and will slowly make its way to the surface. Not a lot we can do about pre-lasered hairs they just crumble if we try to remove them.

does it work?
