ELECTROLOGIST to ELECTROLOGIST

I was wondering if there could be a new category for electrologists.
This forum gets a lot more activity from professional to professional electrologist than I have ever seen elsewhere.

In any event, how much thought have my colleagues given to the Dectro seminar in Canada in August? Since there are newer techniques of thermolysis that I want a greater understanding of, I thought it would be a good opportunity so I registered.

So far, I have been told by some electrologists that it might not be ideal for them as they do not have a machine that can do all of the programmable thermolysis techniques of the Platinum.

In any event, for those who might need CEU’s, it is approved for 1.85.

Margaret told me during my appointment yesterday she was considering attending the Dectro seminar in August. The CEU credits were of particular interest, as were the advanced capabilities of the Apilus Platinum.

Wish I could attend that one! Please do report back!

It sounds like several of the presenters from the recent North Carolina conference will be at the AEA convention in October. The insurance guy would like to offer a less expensive insurance to electrologist who do NOT offer laser and he explains why; the PCOS speaker was just absolutely charming AND educational!!!

(Caith - Margaret gave me your greeting! Thanks!)

I believe that will be happening soon, Arlene.

I’m greatly interested in this seminar. By the way, is that 18.5 hours of CEU’s??

Hi Caith,
If Margaret attends, I would love to meet her.

Hi Barbara,

I will certainly share some of the more meaningful points of what I learn.

I have concerns about Synchro that I hope will be explored and explained. Since we were instructed that it be used with an insulated probe in anagen, I have this growing curiousity about its activity in the follicle. Since it consists of so many fast bursts of synchronized energy, how can I tell that it is doing enough damage in the bulge area. There are no options to pulse since the pulse is already established in synchro. Hairs slide out beautifully but what does that necessarily mean? Is that enough? I feel as though I am supposed to pull up and out very quickly and can’t necessarily determine if I am administering expert timing.

This is certainly an interesting technique and I need to explore it more. So, I will certainly report back about this one as I suspect the Synchro technique requires great skill.

I figure that by using non-ins. gold, the problem wouldn’t exist but we are instructed to only use insulated. Hmmmm.

Hi Dee,

There are about 8 hours of lectures on Sunday, about 6 hours of lectures on Monday, and on Tuesday there are about 8 hours of hands-on workshops using some of the newer techniques. This symposium was approved for 1.85 CEU’s (18.5 hours). There are a couple of hands-on classes that were not approved for CEU’s that are optional.

I already registered with Dectro. and booked my hotel room. I still have to arrange for travel. By car, its 500 miles away. I was thinking of a road trip but I will probably book a flight.

Looking forward to sharing this experience with other curious minded electrologists.

I would think a drive to Burlington, Vermont and quick plane ride from there would be efficient. Would love to go.

I’m seeing some good patterns with Synchro, I think? I swear people are getting to the 90% finished mark, sooner. Need to study my charts again, to be sure.

Re synchro - I still need to work for another few months to get a stronger sense of its advantages.

Re symposium - There is no direct flight from New York to Quebec.
If I want a direct flight, I am going to fly out of Newark, New Jersey.

I check in here from time to time and am really glad to have seen this ELCTROLOGIST to ELECTROLOGIST post. I have been eying the Dectro seminar as well. It seems that it would truly be a learning experience compared to the annual AEA ones that seem to be review, although I tend to go to many of them anyway.

You mention “synchro”…I do not know what this is…maybe this seminar is already over my head!!! I use an Apilus Cleo…just the small little guy. I love it. Maybe synchro is for the upper model Apilus machines? I do straight thermolysis. I had called Dectro about the seminar, and asked if I would be able to learn some of these new techniques with the epilator I have, and not feel pressured into buying a new one. He said I could certainly still use my Cleo!

I am in Northern California (Bay area). The air fare to this seminar is so expensive, yet I still may go. Does anyone know if the hotel room rate that was quoted is in US dollars or Canadian?

Hi Arlene,

Have been using synchro a lot lately, after practicing on myself, I think it hurts less… Having tried it with current on the insert and on the needle extraction, I use it with the insertion…and it has to be a fast insertion. I’ve worked on my left arm two times and can see a huge difference between the left and right sides now.

Since the insulation on some needles is not so close to the point, I’ve also experimented with my non-insulated and if the skin is not very moist, have not had problems with too much current action.

Just my observations…still - always wanting to learn more. Went to California with a colleague who had worked for over a year with her Platinum. (I’d had mine about 4 months at the time.) We both came away with different information. She said she never uses synchro.

You may be able to save some money on the air-fare if you get a round tip to Buffalo or NYC via southwest. The average roundtrip is 250 to 350 with advanced purchase and going to Quebec from there is usually less expensive.

Have any of you signed up for this seminar? If so, where are you coming in from? I will be there, and I am from the San Francisco area.
