Is it normal for an electrologist to rub the skin a lot during sessions? I have had about seven or eight sessions of electrolysis on my upper lip. My first electrologist didn’t rub at all and redness/swelling resolved after a couple of days with no scabs. Unfortunately, she left the practice and I had a session with another electrologist. She rubbed a lot, and I noticed that most of the darker hairs were still there after the session and I had a lot of small scabs that lasted for almost two weeks. I requested a different electrologist after that. She also rubs my skin and seems to rub more as there are fewer dark hairs. It seems like the more she rubs, the more irritated my skin is after and it’s more uncomfortable during the sessions. It is not gentle rubbing. I was wondering if it is normal for electrologists to rub the skin during sessions and, if so, what is the purpose of it? I’m going to ask her about it next session, but wanted to check here, too. Thanks for doing the work that you do!
The only reason I can think of is they’re trying to either straighten the hairs for easy entry or rub off epilated hairs if they’re not removing them off the skin. Some electrologists are bothered by presence of epilated hairs and spend time collecting them on to their glove or some specific area which can be a waste of time if it’s done so often.
It sounds like a lot of wasted time that could be used for removing hair.
