ear hair - any precautions needed?

Hello, I’m a 47y.o. male with some black hair sprouting out of my ears. I’m not talking the ear canal, which I would never touch. On the outside of my ears, some along the ridges. And, as I shave my head every couple of days, I’ve noticed some right above my ear, sort of where my ear meets my scalp. I’d love to have electrolysis done on these areas. Are there any special precautions I should take in these areas? Thanks

I’m a 54 year old male. I’ve been getting my ears done for a while now. Its only one or two hairs per ear. (I’m getting other work done too.)But the ears are fun! You can hear it sizzle ever so slightly!

Thanks for the reply. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed some hair on my ears. It sort of drives me crazy. All of a sudden you look in the mirror and see this big black hair growing out of your ear. Not good. I’m hoping to have my ears done, and I have a couple on the side my nose that need work too. Looking forward to it. It’s funny how the small ones, ie ear and nose hair, are the ones that are the most disturbing

Ozzy, would it be all right if I send you a private message for some advice?

The ears are a very common area to be treated. It is important to ensure the area is cleaned before the treatment to lessen the risk of infection, the ear canals produce wax that can have a large bacteria load . The other consideration is to not over treat the area, it can cause swelling especially the tragi, that is the small flap of skin over the ear canal.

Hey electrolysislady, thanks for that info above. I’m looking forward to getting started in a couple of weeks. And I learned a new word today, tragi. Thanks again, Hank

FYI tragi is plural, the area if you are referring singularly is tragus. I hope I used the word correctly.

Tragus is such a manly name. I wish I would have thought of that when I named my son.

Wouldn’t have made a difference…

He still wouldn’t have listened to his mama

Treatment here is very straight forward, in spite of what one would imagine. Interesting probing angles, at times. Healing here seems very efficient and I can not recall a case of anything unusual occurring at all.

Thanks Christine for the information above. Makes me more confident knowing that this is a regular procedure for electrologists. I can’t figure out why the hair on my ears bothers me so much, but it’s better knowing that I have a plan to get rid of it. Thanks again, Hank

Middle-age man hair on the ears is gross. I hear a lot of women complaining about their men’s ear hair. Some drag their partners in to see me , but in the end they like their smooth ears. One man, who came willingly on his own, said he needed to be fitted for a hearing aid and he was embarrassed that the dr had to see his very bristly ears. On his first visit, the dr said the ear hair was in the way of getting a good fit, so the guy started electrolysis. After about 14 months of treatment (that would be 14 sessions spread out over 14 months) he has total relief from the very coarse hair and now he sees me for 15 minutes a months to zap the finer hairs that remain. He loves not having those crazy ear hairs and hearing aid fits well… And you know what they say… A happy wife is a happy life. He told me his wife is happy about this as well.

For young men starting to see ear hair, go get it treated as the new hairs develop over the years. This is a middle age man problem that can get much worse and it is best not to wait until you have a dense forrest of crazy boy hairs protruding from your ears.

Ears can be an ouchy area, so ask your electrologist to try some different strategies.

Hank, I pm’ed. you the other day.
