Does the laser/IPL lamp touch the skin?

Hi!
I have a question about laser and IPL. I saw a video where somebody was either lasered or IPLed, I don’t know which one it was. He had a lot of transparent gel on his back and the woman was moving the device over his back and it touched his skin. I thought that you simply hold the laser/IPL over the area and then push the “fire” button. Does the laser or the IPL lamp have to be directly applied to the skin? What do you do on areas where you cannot directly apply it to the skin?

With IPL the flashlamp is pressed against the skin. I wouldn’t think you do this with laser since the light is much more focused.

Yes, I think you’re right. Pressing the laser on the skin would most likely burn the skin.

gliding method is faster, but the up and down method is more effective. pressing against the skin actually helps with the effectiveness of a diode laser for example. not all lasers use the gel either.
