Does lasering make trimming much harder?

I had body hair that was way too dense. It also likes to grow too long.

About two years ago I started a laser program in order to reduce the density of the hair. I wasn’t looking for complete hairlessness, just reduction. It seems to have worked very well. (In fact, I got a little more reduction than expected, but I’m not going to let that bother me. Nothing I can do about that now anyway.)

The remaining hairs are now presenting me with an unexpected problem. The issues is on my legs. The remaining hairs are still wanting to grow out to their natural length. My original plan was simply to trim them once every week or so to keep them at a normal looking length. However, they seem to be “weaker” - I don’t know how else to describe it. Specifically, they lay very flat against the surface of the skin. They look like they lack the energy to be erect enough to be off the surface of the skin. Thus, it is impossible for the trimmer to get underneath them and trim them.

Any thoughts/explanations/recommendations?

Is this a result of having been lasered? Is it a permanent condition?

Thanks.

(I am posting this on both the shaving and the laser forums, as I am not sure which is the best fit.)

Interesting question. I got a 1 Brazilian laser tx for just this reason–the hair grew too long and was too coarse for my tastes. Maybe I should wait a while before getting another to see what the results are like?

DLN-So far, I have had two laser treatments on my legs to accomplish hair reduction. I am experiencing the same thing you are with the hairs that remain. I trimmed those hairs down but it was like you said, they seemed weaker. Perhaps this is becuase they had no support from the previous multiple hairs around them. Anyway, the reduction, after two treatments, is more than I expected. My dilema is do I go for a third treatment to get some of the longer, more pronounced hairs that remain and running the risk of having no hair left. I like to have some hair but also would like it to look more natural. My first treatment was in September and my last was in November. I see some finer, much smaller hairs returning and I am not sure if I should wait a few more months to see what comes back. You had your last treatment two years ago? I guess the hairs that were removed are not showing any signs of coming back?

My guess, it is too early to tell just what is happening. Yes, LASER treatments could make hair become finer. However, if it has only been a month or two since your last treatment, it certainly is too early to tell. If you want to see where you are, then you have to wait for about six months. By then, many hairs which are in the dormant stage will be out in full force.

That sounds like good advice. I will see how things progress over the next few months.
