do you HAVE to shave before using an IPL device?

I’d be more worried about the IPL treatments causing induced hair stimulation for your facial hair more so than the BC pill. Some combinations of birth control pills can stimulate hair growth and others like Yaz are a better choice for hormonally vulnerable women.

Are you aware that it is a gamble to use light-based systems on your face?

  • There are various birth control pills available on the market. They have different hormone combinations. Some like Yaz and Yasmine can reduce the hair growth. Others don’t do anything. And others can help produce more hair. You have to talk to an endocrinologist about the various options available to you. Generally, everyone reacts differently to every pill anyway, so you’d have to try several to see which doesn’t give you negative side effects including others besides hair growth.

  • IPL or laser are NOT good options for female facial hair that’s not coarse and dense. Very few women have coarse enough hair for these treatments, i.e. you basically need the type of growth a man would have for treatments to be effective. On top of that, IPLs are not as good as true lasers for any type of hair removal. My recommendation for you would be to see an endocrinologist if you feel you have a LOT more hair than “normal” to determine if there is an underlying cause. And regardless of the situation, if you decide to remove the hair, you most likely need electrolysis for this area, NOT IPL or laser.
