DIY Machine for Eyebrows

Hi,

I currently have electrolysis done by a professional on various areas on my face/body - with very good success.

But when it comes to my eyebrows & hairline I can’t trust anyone to do it other than myself (I’ve read Candela’s eyebrow account, which has scared me!).
I am thinking of purchasing a second hand Sterex SX-B Blend Epilator Machine, my current electrolysist uses a Sterex machine, which works well which is why I’m considering this model. I think I can pick one up for around £300.

Has anyone had success with DIY eyebrow electrolysis? Any tips or advice on this area or the machine I mentioned would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you trust your electrologist, I would get him/her to do this area for you. You could discuss your apprehension and suggest that if you are to do it, you will only go ahead if they will allow you to hold a mirror during the process and direct them one hair at a time. If your electrologist respects your wishes and your skin, this would be the much preferred option.

The eyebrow area is a delicate area. I imagine that first you would have to advance your skills on other body parts. I think you would risk more chance of scarring doing it yourself.

Reading your older posts… are you going to Parkside? I had my eyebrows done by Sharon and so is my sister (pics in my thread). For myself, I would only do a few hairs each session, telling Sharon which ones before hand. For my sister, she cleared the area around the eyebrows (above, below and between) and once this area is more or less done, we will work further on the eyebrow itself but not too much.
Peace1 had a few sessions with Livia in Parkside and liked her approach to eyebrow work as well.

Hi Stopit,

I went to Parkside two times, and the treatment was good but I didn’t go back as it was too far for me to travel.
Regarding my eyebrows, I need to work on the area above my eyebrows, on the sides (near my temples), the under eyebrow area plus the unibrow area. Plus I want to re-shape my hairline. The problem with my situation is that if I am lying there pin-pointing every individual hair out to the electrolysist it will be very time consuming/expensive, which is why I want to do this area myself.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO ELECTROLYSIS YOURSELF ON YOUR FACE, ESPECIALLY FOR THE EYEBROW AREA. [size:17pt]I REPEAT, DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF.[/size] Your problems will be much bigger than candela’s. The best electrologists go to other electrologists for facial work.

Wow, that was a passionate response!

Your message has left me feeling a bit deflated now, because I had my mind set on doing this myself! I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet and get my electrologist to do it.

Can I ask, it seems a few people have successful treated themselves to DIY electro (either by themselves or with a buddy) so I’m wondering how would treating the eyebrow area would be any different to DIY treatment on other area of the body, such as an arm?

Thanks

I’m glad Dee has emphasised not doing this area yourself.

But also, you would need to factor in the cost of the machine and the time needed to become skilled.

My sister had the exact same areas treated - between eyebrow and hairline, glabella and shaping the underside of the eyebrow. She doesn’t direct Sharon as we both trust her a lot. She knows we’d rather have too little off than too much, so does a certain amount and then asks if it’s okay. And scarring or a bad skin reaction is never an issue.

My sister achieved first clearance in these areas quite quickly - maybe an hour or so of treatment time.

Also, how does your current electrologist compare in regards to speed with the Parkside electrologists? It may be worth going there just for this area.

Doing it yourself is not a better option. It will take quite some time to master the skill in order not to scar yourself. And you need to pick an area that’s not very visible for this too. It’s also very hard to do proper insertions on your own face. It really shouldn’t be done at all.

I had my eyebrows done by an electrologist without issues. I had a mirror the entire time and she was good at asking me about questionable hairs. You can also outline the area you want left alone with a pencil.

There are many places where getting a buddy and trading work on each other after a few readings of a few books, and blowing holes in your legs to figure out what not to do would be just fine. The Eyebrows are NOT one of them!

What makes them different? Let’s try thinner skin, segue over to even tinier follicles, and a situation where a sneeze, twitch, or poor treatment selection by you could result in blindness.

Get a good machine and lots of books, and a buddy if you want to do your legs, arms, underarms, and maybe after all that experience, some facial hairs on the cheeks chin and whatnot, but leave the eyebrows to the pros. If nothing else, the professional should have better magnification than you, in order to see what one is doing much better, and more accurately.

When I go to James for mine I will probably use a while pencil to outline the areas. J

And another passionate one from me: remember the last hit of the Beatles? Let It Be.

Can I ask, it seems a few people have successful treated themselves to DIY electro

Including me, even in the face. Of course i also tried to treat my eyebrows. In contrast to other parts of the face it is extremly hard to get sufficient magnification -Your hands are in the way, any loupe is set up for looking downward and not upward, and if You wear glasses Your totally lost. I actually gave up after treating two hairs, and one of them, the 2nd, lead to a (luckily small) scar.

Beate

I do think DIY has it’s place. I would be willing to work on my arms and legs and maybe stomach if I could bend correctly, however, there is a reason I fly the length of the USA for facial work. It’s just not worth it for me to mess my face up. J
