A question on behalf of another member and also because I am interested.
I’m posting here as I think the electrologists will have the best insight.
So by “distorted follicles” I mean those hairs that have experienced plucking through any means (waxing, threading, tweezing) which over time result in hair growth that no longer lies against the skin. Hairs that jut out at strange angles.
Many people experience this on their eyebrows. I experienced this on my arms after years of waxing and epilating. Even though Laser removed most of my arm hair, leaving some sparse and fine growth, I still have to shave when the hair becomes longer than a few mm because they stick almost straight out. It’s been 2.5 years since I stopped waxing and started Laser and over a year since I stopped Laser.
I’m going to have these hairs removed by electrolysis.
The question the member has is, if left alone, would these follicles repair themselves in this regard? And what sort of time frame are we talking about?
Speculating here, if the follicles are producing a distorted hair is because part of the follicle has been permanently damaged, a portion of healthy tissue has been replaced by scar tissue and consequently the hair is forced to take another “way”.
Like hair that is growing in a different angle it used to be. It happened to my eyebrows but I plucked few times and I want to know if they would recover by themselves. Maybe they need time ?
It may be that some hairs have changed their physiology and now grow longer and curly than others? If so, this has not been caused by plucking, this is common after a certain age, both men and women. As far as I know, nothing can be done. It is an irreversible process that I am afraid, will get worse.
Not exactly. I am still young. The hair regrew in a different angle which miss up the shape of brow. Is it possible it would recover if untouched I am pretty sure plucking in the wrong direction was the cause of this, but again I only plucked few times.
Would you recommend anything ? Is it true that you can train your hair to grow in the direction you want by applying gel maybe ?
Yes, of course! Some electrologists use blend and some use thermolysis. I like both, but I use a thermolysis mode called Multiplex most of the time. Treating the hairs with electrolysis will eliminate the hairs completely. Is that what you desire for these eyebrow hairs? Training your eyebrows with a gel won’t work.
No. I didn’t say electrolysis. What I meant some hair in the eyebrow regrew in an odd direction. Would they recover by themselves after say one or more hair growth cycle ? and of course with no plucking at all. Would they grow as they were before lying flat to the skin ?
No, they won’t “recover”, as a distorted hair is literally not growing like it used to. This is usually a side effect of waxing, plucking, or some other ripping out type of skin trauma. The only option is at a minimum an “undertreatment” with electrolysis in hopes that it will straighten out, but there is no guarantee that it would. Of course, total removal ends the problem, as there would be no more distorted hair.
