Diminishing returns?

Hi, I understand that laser hair removal gives permanent hair “reduction” and that multiple treatments are needed to get the best results.

I was wondering if there is a way of estimating by how much hair will be reduced per treatment. For instance, does the first session remove the most hair? Is the difference between 6 or 7 treatments alot less than the difference between 1 or 2?

For instance is the reduction pattern something like the following?

1st - 40% reduction
2nd - 60% reduction
3rd - 70% reduction
4th - 85% reduction

Thanks.

I suppose those numbers might be close, but keep in mind, hair reduction and removal is not an exact science because there are too many variables involved. All you can do is study, understand and then act on the information you learned to find the best practitioners, using the best laser for your situation. Laser hair reduction does not work on all hair colors or hair structures. Go into this with your eyes wide open and be reasonable with your expectations. Find a good electrologist to finish the job if you are looking for hair removal as oppossed to hair REDUCTION.

You will not see that much reduction after the first session. A competent practitioner can clear most areas in 5-6 treatments.

Please read about hair cycles. Hair grows in several cycles, which means only a certain percentage of hair is in the right phase of growth and present to be targeted and killed by laser. Basically, you can kill most coarse hair during a treatment if that hair is in the right phase and good settings are used. BUT, only hair in one phase will be in the right stage at any point in time. So that’s primarily why multiple treatments are necessary. Diminishing returns don’t start until treatment 5-6.
