Differences to look for?

I am going to try a different electrologist. One that is recommended on this forum. I’m going to try and compare the differences between the 2 ladies. So what should I be checking for? Obviously I’ll be looking at the difference in clearance as well as how fast the hair comes back. Anything else? I’m just kinda worried that even if I do get proper treatments the hair will be back a day or 2 after treatment :frowning:

There’s no way a hair follicle treated with electrolysis will sprout a new hair in two days after treatment. After three weeks it’s possible, but any actual regrowth from the treated follicles will be significantly thinner/finer. Some of the differences between electrologists are speed, comfort of insertions, whether they pluck any hairs, and the amount of treatment energy they use.

Speed may seem obvious, but everyone is different. More skilled electrologists can remove 10 to 15 hairs per minute, while less skilled people may remove only 5 to 10 hairs at most.

Comfort of insertions is critical for me. The first electrologist I used years ago was completely acceptable, but my current electrologist is incredibly skilled and talented by comparison, having perfected her skills over many years of practice.

Plucking occurs when the follicle isn’t treated with enough energy to easily release the hair. You’ll feel a small bit of pain when plucking occurs, because the hair is still connected to the follicle. A well-treated hair may cause some resistance or tugging when it comes out, but it should not cause any sensation of pain whatsoever.

The amount of treatment energy used is important. Using too much energy causes skin damage. Using too little energy requires multiple pulses to effectively treat the hair. This takes more time and causes more discomfort, resulting in fewer hairs treated over the same time. An electrologist’s experience in knowing how much energy is required to treat different hairs in different areas makes a huge difference in your results. Instead of “hunting” for the right energy and wasting time, they know what’s required because they’ve seen and treated hairs and skin like yours before.

I hope this helps you evaluate some differences between your two electrologists. Obviously, their individual attitudes and personalities are every bit as important. How clean and well-organized their salon/shop is another factor to consider.
