Did 5 laser treatments and hair is coming back....

After going through a 5 time laser treatment, 3 months have passed and I feel like the hair is coming back. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I feel cheated. I paid over $1000 to get my back done and I even see more hair now then I did before. Is this possible?

When I first went, they told me I was a perfect candidate because I was white (hispanic) and had black hair. After my first treatment I was really impressed. A month had gone by and I hadn’t seen any hair growth. After the third treatment, it started to feel like it was not working. The hair would start growing almost 1 week after the treatment. Is any one else going through this. Can I sue? What do I do?

Do you recommend trying another method? Please help.

I am new to this forum, but reading through the posts have helped me a lot in my hair removal research. I think that everyone responds differently to lasers. If you look through the posts, you will find that laser is effective for some people and completely useless for others.

Do you know which laser was used for your treatment? Perhaps that had an influence on the results.

I agree with many of the posts about laser. Please read carefully the Site: ElectrolysisInformation.com Before you have further treatment!

What laser was used on you? How far apart were your treatments spaced? Did the hair shed after each treatment?

I hear you, nOmar…
I have had 10 treatments on my back & neck…and it’s STILL not all gone.
Some months look better than others.
I really think they wait too long in between treatments, they tell me 12 weeks but I feel I need it around 8, thats when the hair starts growing back.
Every one is different, so I don’t know why they use a set standard???
I would say back back is about 70% cleared but my neck only about 50%!!!

Keep in mind that you would need at least 6 weeks before the skin is considered “healed” from the treatment.

cuz_nt, you should be going back in for treatment as soon as a bunch of hair grows back. if you wait too long, you will miss the anagen phase of growth – the one that is most effective in killing the hair.

There will always be hair in the anagen phase…roughly 33% (or 1/3) at any given time.

yes, but the longer you wait, the less cost-effective since there will be less in that stage

nOmar, I went through a similar situation with my face. After reading many posts I realized this happens to many women on the face and to many men on the back and shoulders. It’s really strange how laser seems to work miracles on some people and disaster on others.

Laser worked great on my bikini area, but stimulated hair growth on my face.

I think that once you notice laser is ineffective, you should stop immediately. If you continue trying with different laser centers and different lasers, you are just going to waste your money and be disappointed.

TRY ELECTROLYSIS. If you find a good electrologist, you will be very happy with the results. There are NO reports of people growing more hair after electrolysis. It is safe and effective. And if you find someone who is very skilled, you will see results FAST.

Also, you should go back to the laser center and ask for your money back (or at least part).

Wouldn’t there be more in that stage?
Any given time there is 33% in anagen phase…the more hair you have, the number of hairs in that phase will increase.

well, if anagen is a growth phase, then it will pass at a point and move into another phase for some hairs.

Patients that had laser treatment 3-7 years ago, men and women, are presetly coming back for electrolysis treatment because most of it is regrowing. Not All The hair But Most.

This does not happen with good electrolysis treatment! That is the main reason why only electrolysis is cost effect for the patient.

Laser is a great sales item or lead item. It gets the client in the office and now switch them over to permanent hair removal.

We keep reminding them about the perils of laser but they will not believe us. They rather spend the money and learn for themselves. Even then they keep talking about the machine, the number of joules, the pain, the days before they can go out of the house. the name of the laser, whether it was yag, or alexandrite, etc., and what settings were used on them. Rarely does any of them know what Fitzpatrick type of skin they have. It’s enough to blow your mind yet they come back to us for help after we warned them. Why do they do this ? Is it because we are the only ones who are willing to talk to them ?

God. Stop advertising your website and learn FACTS about laser. This bashing is not helping anyone.

I can sit here and post links to dozens of stories on this forum from customers who got scarred from electrolysis or didn’t get any results after hours and years of treatments and lots of money down the line. That doesn’t mean electrolysis doesn’t work. It means that they went to a bad electrologist. In the same way that if someone had a bad experience with laser (usually an IPL, not a laser, though it doesn’t sound like you know or care what the difference is), they usually went to a bad clinic.

Hair doesn’t “come back” 3-7 years later. Just like it doesn’t “come back” 3-7 years of electrolysis. If it was gone for that long, what you’re seeing is NEW hair. You should know that if you consider yourself a competent electrologist.

I suspect that you came here posting this after such a long absence because you’re upset that laser is taking away your business - now more than ever in poor economy.

Lefty, you’re just making stuff up now. There is never anything specific in your posts except for misinformation about laser where you clearly show that you know nothing about it. People who do their research on laser get results. They don’t come to you complaining. Why not start figuring out how to get business without bashing something you know nothing about – something that’s actually helping people (like me, who’s done BOTH laser and electrolysis successfully btw)? Is business that slow? Maybe it’s slow because you’re not getting recommended by your past clients due to your poor attitude and unwillingness to learn.

I strongly concur with what lagirl wrote.

Listen carefully, gentlemen, I am a practicing electrologist. I do not do laser. I could, if I wanted, but my electrolysis practice is very busy already, so I pass my clients to laser specialists for areas like the bikini line, underarms, lower legs. They can go if they desire. Some insist that they want electrolysis anyway, so I can certainly handle that and I know the two of you did just fine in your day when you were full-time electrologists. Laser works for many, many people, so get over that and deal with the facts. When it doesn’t work, then we all know that good old steady friend electrolysis, the gold standard for hair removal WILL KNOCK OFF ANY COLOR OF HAIR ON ANY COLOR OF SKIN FOR ANY STRUCTURE OF HAIR FROM VERY FINE TO VERY COARSE.

If you want to feed off of each other to make yourselves feel good, then that is your decision. I know what I see as a practicing electrologist and I’m not going to tell myself lies to protect my earnings. LASER WORKS but we all know that it is not a panacea for everybody that has invested a lot of money and hope in the procedure, but these some/all statements are clearly misleading serious minded consumers who are seeking the best advice for their particular situation. We must be observant and truthful about what we see, whether we earn our money from electrolysis or laser. I respect your years of experience and dedication to the electrolysis profession, but the the new kid on the block deserves some respect.

Unreal, I totally agree with LA and Dee, what a joke, clearly someone is looking to bash lasers…

and ummm 5 treatments, big woop, more like min 12 treatments on your back, shoulders, upper arms. Then come back and complain… And umm make sure you use the correct laser and not IPL or Tria.

I’ve had 6 treatments on my arms, looking for reduction, seeing fine blonde hairs coming back after 6 weeks. My problem is, I don’t know when to quit. Summer is coming fast, thinking about doing treatment 7, but then again I can always continue end of November. Start legs if I can find some type of pain management that works — sorry, babbling ;o)

Anywho - Thanks for speaking up for laser…

Laser speaks for itself and anyone who works in the hair removal business knows it can be very helpful, but they also know that electrolysis is the true gold standard.

You may be finished! You know that laser will not be able to affect the blond hairs coming through, right?

Dee

Hi Dee,

That almost sounded like you are saying, enjoy wearing short sleeves this summer…

I may hit my upper arms and hands again, I have ZERO hair on the insides of my biceps, I had the wrap around course hair… My hands, very fine blond hairs, since I started this, I haven’t had to hide my hands from people staring, people in my situation know exactly what I’m talking about here and how it makes you feel, its just HUGE not to have that feeling anymore…

Soooo, may be a stupid question but I’ll ask, I do see some dark hairs, maybe .001% of what I had, and even comparing to what was coming back by now after 3 treatments is a massive difference… Ok, My question, those blondish hairs, can they mature into coarse black hairs again?

I will assume that could be a possiblity, but if enough of the hair growing structures have been permanently disabled, I will also assume that those days of coarse, black hairs are behind you. I will bet on the latter. One of my clients, who has been my client on and off for five years, had her arms lased in 2003. No hair has returned to the scale she had before laser and the hair that has surfaced is long, thin and medium brown to very light. It takes all of 30 minutes for me to nit pick at both arms to clear this hair.

I am very happy for you, but if you need further help in the future for smaller, lighter hair structures, then you really should find a modernly equipped and skilled electrologist that can speed along with clean up sessions that you may need in the future.
