I’ve been on the oral contraceptive pill Dianette for just over a year now as I was depressed about the hair and spots that I had. I’m happy with the results- my skin is clear and with the help of electrolysis I’m getting rid of the unwanted hairs. The only thing is I’m experiencing small jabs of pain in the womb area now and then and I’m starting to become a little saddened again as I know I can’t stay on it for more than 2 years? I just don’t want things to go back to how they were. Has anyone had experiences of being on Dianette and been happy after they’ve come off it?
I just don’t know what to do
i too want to know if this works good and what happens after coming off it?
I’ve been on Dianette for about six months. I have also been using Vaniqa and electrolysis and the results were promising. I decided to stop the Vaniqa just to see if I could identify if it was all three together working or if one treatment was working better than the others. Since I’ve stopped the Vaniqa, the hairs have grown back much faster and thicker.
It makes me think that Dianette isn’t doing its job very well. I’ve also put on quite a bit of weight which is depressing (I’m currently the heaviest I’ve ever been!!).
I’m now considering going off the pill for a bit and see what happens. I’m also concerned about my blood pressure, and as I have thrombosis in my family I think it might be a good idea.
Since using it, my skin has been less oily - but I still get spots. The hairs are less - but that could be the effect of the Vaniqa cream - or maybe a combination.
I’ll try to remember to post in a month or two with any news on coming off the pill.
Well I went off the pill and the hair growth is DEFINITELY much worse… and that’s just in about two weeks, a noticable change. I guess the pill must have been working to some extent then.
Still, I’m not that keen on taking the pill due to the other risks involved, so I might just increase the frequency of my electrolysis appointments and see how it goes.
Wish me luck!
ive been using diane 35 too & had good success as regards slowing hair growth but it has made me develop boobs! Not only that it lowers your libido quite a lot too.
Hi, Just sharing my experience with Dianette…
I was on dianette for about a year. I experiences a slow, and small, reduction in body hair. But since coming off it hair grew back to how it was prior to dianette fairly quickly.
However, my biggest concern was with the acne i experienced prior to Dianette. I have never had acne before(i was an entierly acne free teenager, and found it strange that i should be getting acne in my 20’s having not had it as a teen). I thought this may be an inital reaction to coming off the pill, but a year on i still get acne! Although i do find that taking daily evening primrole oil capsules is very effective for acne.
Dianette didn’t reduce my excess hair long-term, but it appears to have given me acne!
I was on Diane for about 1 year and it gave me gross veins all over my breasts which have never gone away and have in fact got worse. I read somewhere that the contraceptive pill can increase the appearance of below the surface veins which appear blueish in colour
I started taking diane 35 , I ordered them online. its too soon to say if they work or not , but i’m really worried about the high risk of blood clots associated with this drug! what can I do to reduce this risk. should I under go monthly check ups ?will eating healthy , and regular excersise help? I wish all the doctors that I went to took my hair, and acne problems seriously. Its so frustarting when they don’t.
every birth control pill says it comes with a risk of blood clots. i wouldn’t worry too much.
I really do not understand why so many people here are doing things like taking BCPs and spiro without a doctor’s supervision. BCPs you can get pretty much no questions asked at any doctor (assuming you are a female) and my general doctor was willing to write me a script for spiro after I gave him a made up little story.
I could see if you were ordering something like viagra online because of embarassment or painkillers or something else, but for something so mundane, why not do it under the care of a doctor???
the reason I got it online, is because its not available where I live, and when I asked about a similar pill ( yasmin) my doctor gave me a funny look , as if having acne, and excessive hair was not a big deal. He did give me ortho.tricylen lo, he said that would solve the problem, and isn’t that risky.I took it for 6 months, and was unhappy with it, so I finally did research , and found out I can order diane 35 online, and I did. But recently my sister told me that she discussed it with her doctor, and she said that diane 35 is very dangarous, and that I should immediately stop taking them…before I started taking them I knew that i was taking a risk, but after hearing this from my sister i’m really worried. I might switch back to ortho tricylen.
Why can’t you be on Dianette for more than 2 years?
alli
I stopped taking diane and I already lost 5 pounds without working out, its amazing how hormones have such dramatic effect on your weight. And alli I was told by several people including doctors that diane isn’t very safe, and when you come off it, your conditions will return! so its not a permanent solution. and it does have side effects!!!
ortho tri cyclen low is also not a great pill. it’s marketed very well to doctors, so doctors tend to prescribe it a lot. most people i know ended up switching away from it because basically with it you get a different dose of hormones every week and it can make you very unstable.
If I were you, I would prefer Yasmin which should have similar effects to diane (for acne, hair etc) without those issues. Alesse is also a good pill. Both of those I got prescribed by a clinic that didn’t receive any “reward” for prescribing something else (like Ortho Tri Cyclens etc). So keep that in mind.
Btw, if you get off any of the BC pills, your symptoms usually return. They are only regulated once you are on the pill as the pill helps stabilize your hormonal balance only WHILE you’re on it.
thanks lagirl!! Does Yasmin not have the same weight gain side affect that Diane has? Why is Diane so dangerous?
I read that Yasmin can increase potassium. Is it still safe to take in conjunction with Spironolactone then?
I read on a woman’s online resource forum that Alesse is actually on the list for being one of the worst for ppl with excess hair/acne problems because of its low estrogen and high “androgenicity”. Yikes.
Has anyone had success with Desogen? It has a middle range of estrogen (same as Yasmin) but a diff type of progestin (maybe that is what makes Yasmin better). I was on Desogen in the past and had no side affects but my excess facial hair growth wasn’t as bad then so maybe I should ask for Yasmin this time. I just hope I don’t have other side affects, such as weight gain and want to take a BCP in conjunction with spironolactone (unless the BCP helps enuff just on its own).
alli
is not gaining weight on yasmin only effective with some people, or is it a sure thing? I’ve noticed birth control like ortho- tricyclen made me lose wieght in the long run , and diane made me gain weight in a matter of days.
