Dark Skin Questions

I went to three consultations today for LHR. I am of East Indian descent and most places typed me a skin type IV. The nurse at American Laser Center typed me as a Type IV - but according to their questionnaire because of my heritage I am a skin type V. But after my dermatology consults - i am sure I am a skin type IV.

I am looking to get my chest, abdomen, and buttocks done. I have a mix of dark black coarse hair and very fine black hair on all of these areas.

Is IPL even an option for someone of my skin and hair type? I have read numerous posts relating personal dissatisfaction with the results following IPL treatments. In my case - does my skin type/hair type make it even more unlikely to see results with IPL? Are people who are satisfied with IPL have lighter skin?

And second, none of the clinics/offices I went to today had a ND-yag laser but they did have a diode. What are the possible consequences of a diode laser on dark skin? I don’t have keloid scarring issues - and I am wondering what might happen.

Do not treat the fine hair at all. You have a high chance of that hair getting darker and more coarse if you do.

For the coarse hair, you should get results with a Yag with least consequences. Diode may be ok, but only in very good hands where they can test to see if you can handle settings high enough to kill the hair without causing damage to the skin.

IPL is not a good option for your skin type.

The yag is the best choice for you skin. We have noticed great results with the Candela laser. Indian skin is very dificult to treat and is very dificult to get good results. The factory settings will give you marginal results and experience practioner is a must.
