Consumer modified One Touch, shares tips

A reader sent me this report of how she modified her One Touch for easier use. Includes a photo of the setup.

I have just bought a One Touch but I found that the needles that come with it are too thick for my face (ok on legs ) . They are .004inch and One touch don’t seem to do thinner needles. However , inspired by your modifications I took a look inside and I have done this :- I have added two banana sockets . I drilled a neat hole through the small e on Deluxe and the first small e in Electrolysis.
I used panel type sockets as they have a low profile which means I can still get the lid on !!

I cut the twin cable to the probe and wired the sockets in parallel . Yellow to - and white to +
This enables me to use any probe holder that has a banana plug !! I managed to get a very tidy looking
Ballet- switched ejector type and of course they offer 2,3,4 and 6 probe tips . I made a - bar with some chromium plated tubing a screw and a cable that can clip onto the screw inside the tube and with
a banana plug on the other end I can make the other connection just by placing the bar on the cushion under my leg . This all works so well that I have had to turn the dial down !! I think the probe is making a better connection than the original which can still be used for legs as I have a few probe needles that I will use up .

I just wanted to thank you for your post on Transsexual Road Map as it made me realise how easily these little machines can be improved . If One Touch just offered smaller needles it would be so much easier for everybody !! But what I have achieved so far is a lot cheaper than the Pro version here in Liverpool UK. I was quoted £140 for a 2 hour session and that I would probably need 3 to 5 years treatment at once a week . I won’t bore you with all the Maths but at £21,840 to £36,400 (pounds not Dollars !! )for that treatment and time scale I’d just say that “they are having a laugh”.

So Thanks again for your inspiration !!
(I’ll be connecting my multimeter to find the values for the numbers on the switch !!)

Needless to say I ditched the original tweezers as they are useless but being fair the One Touch itself works very well but I don’t know why they don’t offer a range of probes as not everybody has size 4 follicles !! Mine seem to be size 2 on my face , and size 4 on my legs but my mod will allow ANY probe holder that has a 4mm banana plug OR the original probes can still be used in the One Touch holder !! So if some one does the mod they can choose the holder that is available and the size of probe(needle) that suits their follicles .That mod is so easy with basic tools.
The other advantage is that you will get longer leads which means you can place the unit more effectively wherever you set up !! Also the needles are much cheaper for the replacement holders.

I just hope that I can make a difference to others. I imagine that there will be more choice of probe holder in the US - I can only find TWO in the UK - Ballet or Sterex.

This is a short addendum to my last post about modifying the One touch.
Here are the approximate readings from the 10 position switch on the device.
The battery is the original which has been used for 12 hours so the readings would be slightly higher from a new battery. The switch is a current limiter - here we go !!

1 - 1.2 6 - 3.2
2 - 1.4 7 - 5.0
3 - 1.6 8 - 14.6
4 - 1.9 9 - 16.3
5- 2.4 10 - 16.5

All readings are milliamps . A battery will typically be capable of 150 milliamps for 1 hour,so if you use a setting of about 5 milliamps (No 7) the battery should last about 30 hours but less than 10 hours on No 10 .Lower settings will allow the battery to last longer but if you have a couple of rechargeable 9v batteries (one on and one in the wash !! ) you will be able to Zap with impunity and cheaply until your skin is as hair free as you need.
