I’ve been suffering from a severe case of girl-stache, am close to starting college and I cannot live with this anymore, am considering electrolysis. The hair is a bit fine in some areas.

These are some of the questions Ive had regarding this topic: What are the implications for someone who is of dark skin? How many sessions would it take for the hair to be permanently removed?

I also wanted to ask about the bit of shadow or darkness I have on my upper lip, would this be removed along with the hair? Thank you so much!

None of the professionals have posted a response yet and I’m sure you are eager for an answer. I am not an electrologist but want to encourage you to begin
treatment. My own electrologist treats several dark-skinned women so I’m sure
it’s safe. Don’t delay; start now!

I agree! Get going. Electrolysis is perfect for any color of skin, any color of hair and any structure of hair, in any phase of growth. Get your consults and make sure the electrologist has the ability to see those “tiny Tim” hairs.

I would clear all the hairs in one session, but most won’t treat the upper lip for more than 15 minutes. Either way is okay. After the first, full clearance, you will need 8-15 sessions, to clear each time, as you go through the hair growth cycles. Those sessions have to be spread out over 9-18 months. You can’t go any faster. Sorry, it’s Mother Natures fault. We don’t make the rules.

The darkness will disappear as the little dark hairs are removed.

Being a woman of color, you MAY get some hyperpigmentation. Do not fear - it will fade, with time.

The Dowager is right of course. I had at one point gone to respond to this because I didnt see it addressed, but at that precise moment my cient at the time arrived and I wasnt able to.
I treat exactly this type of hair often on those with darker skin tones, usually indian, pakistani, or middle eastern descent the “little black hairs” provide for a lot of contrast. The good news is they are very easly treatable, and that does not have to include a y darkening from treatment, but even if that does happen, it always resolved and fades completely.
