Considering electrolysis in Japan

Hello!
I have been reading the posts on this forum and recently decided to join. This seems to be a very helpful community and I’m glad these forums exist.

I have several areas where I’m interested in permanent/long term hair removal. I am new to electrolysis.

I am living in Okinawa, Japan so I am uncertain where to even begin to look for a reliable, skilled electrologist here. I posted in another topic about finding an electrologist but haven’t received too many replies (sorry to cross post). IPL seems to be a big thing in Okinawa, but I haven’t been able to locate any electrologists. I would like to at least have a consultation. If anyone knows of anyone in this area who might be able to work on facial/neck regions, your recommendations would be much appreciated.

Maybe someone can tell me what questions to ask if I do find a salon that does electrology.

Thank you so much for your help!

Do you speak Japanese? I hope so, as two of my clients had trouble getting appointments. They were told through a translator that the electrologists were afraid that there would be communication problems - that the electrologist might not be able to tell if the client was uncomfortable, and that they were inexperienced with American hair. The latter was very like true for one of these women, as she had coarse, curly, red hair.

One of these women found a physician in a big city who was from…Germany…or somewhere around there, but they charged nearly $200US per hour…

You would look for the things listed in this article: http://electrology.com/consumer/selecting_electrologist.html

Thanks for the links.

I do speak and understand Japanese (though reading is difficult). I think that’s interesting that your clients couldn’t find anyone who would work on them here. They often do IPL on Americans in this area as there are about 60,000 Americans on this island. Hmm. I haven’t heard of anyone being turned down, except men. They refuse to do treatment on men (or those in transition).

I can see how they would be very careful or intimidated to work on foreigners due to communication issues.

Anyways, thanks for the links. I will keep looking.

I see 4 salons in Okinawa.
Are you in Naha area? The last one on the list on http://www.jsa-cpe.org/top14.html is in Naha.

In Japan, the law is that you are supposed to get electrolysis in clinics, but reality is that they do it in skin care salon. They don’t really enforce the law.
I could be wrong, but I heard that in those esthetic salon, they can not use isolated proves.

LASER is more popular in Japan so it may be difficult to find the place for electrolysis. I heard TBC is really expensive and people have to get loan to get it done.

Good LUCK!

They have an English website. Though, this is in Osaka
